Pro-Life Kelburne Mens 5s Lose Out to Clydesdale 4s

4.11.17 - The young Kelburne 5s side travelled to Titwood to take on league leaders Clydesdale 4s in a late pushback. This was always going to be a difficult game and so it proved. Clydesdale started on the front foot having most of the pressure but having few clear cut chances and Kelburne always looked dangerous when they pushed forward. At the back youngsters Callum Brown and Scott Peters were having excellent games and all over the park the Kelburne youngsters were working hard to try and match the more experienced Clydesdale side. As Kelburne came more into the game they managed to earn a couple of penalty corners. From one of these Dick Donaldson fired Kelburne into the lead after 20 minutes. A flowing Clydesdale move 5 minutes before halftime ended with one of the Clydesdale youngsters firing the ball into the Kelburne net at the far post. No further goals meant both teams went in at halftime 1-1.

HT Clydesdale 4s 1-1 Kelburne 5s Clydesdale came out in the second half strongly and Kelburne struggled to get the ball out of their half. Some resolute defending kept the scores even but eventually Clydesdale made the breakthrough to take the lead with a well finished goal. Kelburne almost struck back as Rory Donaldson picked up the ball in the Clydesdale circle but fired wide. With about 10 minutes to go Clydesdale got a fortunate third as a double deflection turned a shot going wide into the Kelburne goal. The character of the Kelburne team has never been in doubt and they enjoyed their best spell of the game pushing Clydesdale back. A mix up from a Kelburne penalty corner fell to Callum Flemming at the back post who fired home to bring the score to 2-3. Kelburne pushed forward and a Don Tervit drive managed to get him by the keeper but he had to fire the ball back across the goal but no one could get the final touch for an equaliser.
