Kelburne Ladies 3s Lose out to Loch Lomond in Cup Match

On Saturday 15.9.18 - Our young side had a confident start to their Cup game. It was great to have Jen Owen back in super form and creating lots of pressure in the opening minutes, linking up well with midfield. Kelburne looked confident with their first long corner but the resulting shot on goal was just wide. Kelburne’s young side continued to push forward with Morven and Eve maintaining a lot of possession in midfield. Good play up the wing created more chances with the ball being driven in hard but Kelburne were unlucky not to capitalise on these chances. With Carol and Fiona strong in defence, Loch Lomond failed to create many chances and their first short corner was quickly cleared. Abbie took the ball for a run up the right wing and after completing a ‘nutmeg’ she fired the ball across the D. A short corner followed which Jen struck well and a quick deflection was well saved by the GK. A short corner to Loch Lomond was quickly dealt with by our defence with Carol leading by example and clearing the ball to the halfway line. Kelburne continued pressing and another short corner was saved well by their GK. The team had great possession throughout the 1st half. At halftime the game remained scoreless and the seagulls were circling at this feast of Hockey. The 2nd half began with Lindsay being called into action with a good save. Kelburne continued to press with accurate, quick passing and a short corner needed the defence to send Jen’s shot wide of the goal. The team continued to link up well and great tackling by Charley on the wing created more possession for the young side. The defence held strong under sustained pressure with brave stops from Carol and Eve tracked back well to assist and clear the ball. Against the run of play Loch Lomond managed to penetrate the Kelburne defence and scored their first goal at close range. Loch Lomond took a lot of confidence from their goal and increased pressure but the ball was won back well in midfield. Another shot from Loch Lomond was saved well on the line by Lindsay in goal. Kelburne kept pushing up and won a short corner in the final few minutes of the game. Charley had an accurate and strong shot on goal bravely saved on the line. Loch Lomond quickly retained possession and a short corner was awarded in the last minute of the game which allowed Loch Lomond to score with a deflected shot. The game finished 2-0 to Loch Lomond but Kelburne yet again impressed all those watching by their tenacity and determination to control the game and drive forward at every opportunity. With her fantastic leadership and strength in defence Carol was a well deserved MVP 🎉
