Pro-Life Kelburne Men's 2s Draw vs Watsonians

On 16.9.17 - This game really was a tale of two halves. Two halves both far below Kelburne standards for different reasons. The team started slowly, but filled with confidence from last week’s away win against Grange 3s. Kelburne was up for the challenge and looking for another scalp to claim. There was a very cagey start to the game, both sides putting in strong defensive efforts to break up play. Midfield trio of Alan Walker, Ewan Carmichael and JG Shepherd working over-time to prevent any build-up from the Watson's team. Chances were a plenty for both teams, however, a loss of concentration allowed Watson's to fire home a scrappy goal. 22 mins gone and it stood Watsonians 1-0 Kelburne. However right at the death on 34 minutes, Kelburne struck back. With the ball bouncing around in front the net, Alan Walker was on hand to slot the ball past a panicking keeper.  Kelburne started the second half more brightly with forwards Ciaran Wilcox, Rory McClure and Andrew Duff showing great urgency to get on the ball and make things happen for the Paisley side. Watsonians did well to keep out the pressure and limit the penetrations into the D to a few. It was after this point that the game became very feisty with both sides eager to get on top, the first victim being Rory McClure with a green on 44’ for a questionable tackle. Not 3 minutes later and Kelburne lost another to a green card; with centre back Fraser Hutchison going to the bin for his 2 minute break. Watsonians had their fair share of cards also, with a player receiving a green and on his return a yellow for an immediate infringement. Goal scorer Walker also received a green for a lax tackle on 56 minutes. Shortly after JG received the second yellow of the game, an interesting decision but a fair call given the umpires' view of events. To cap things off, Ciaran Wilcox received the final card and his first yellow of the season for a sliding tackle with minutes to go. It was at this moment Kelburne had fired into full counter attack mode, but nothing was sticking. With 28 entries into the D and 6 shorts awarded in Kelburne’s favour, it was clear that the team were lacking the finishing touch in the final third.

Final score 1-1. Man of the Match: Connor Bain for an outstanding performance at the back, and young reliable Niall Taylor being voted DOTD : )

Kelburne 2s will look ahead to their next fixture against another east coast team, Edinburgh Uni 2s that will be played on the 30th September at Peffermill.

Pro-Life Kelburne Men's 5s Draw vs Western Wildcats

16.9.17 - 1st Half Kelburne made a fantastic start to the match against Western Wildcats and Dick Donaldson set the tone for the first half, scoring a fine goal, only to have it chopped off. It wasn't long before the Western goal was under attack again and this time it was Rory Donaldson who made a great run and pass to find Mark Fulton inside the circle to slot his shot past the keeper. Again, Dick Donaldson made another powerful run into the circle with what looked like a great shot to beat the Western keeper, but again the umpire saw an infringement and disallowed the goal. At the other end of the pitch the Kelburne defence looked comfortable, with the likes of young Scott Peters and Callum Stewart looking composed on the ball and keen to move the ball forward. Although, the defence did provide a good shield for goalkeeper Rowan McClure, he too performed well and made a good double save near the end of the second half to deny Western. Kelburne finished the first half strongly, taking a 1 - 0 lead into the break but it could easily have been more.

2nd Half Western looked a different team for the first 15 minutes of the second half and a lapse in concentration for Kelburne at this crucial point in the game didn't help. This allowed Western to build some momentum and eventually they equalised, stunning Kelburne who then conceded another quick goal, giving Western a 2 - 1 lead. The response from Kelburne could not have been better and they were soon back playing the free flowing hockey they had demonstrated for most of the first half. Young Jared Bolland made his debut and immediately was involved in the action, showing some great composure and passing at a point in the game where Kelburne were really chasing the game. Kelburne were awarded a short corner and on 18 minutes Dick Donaldson came close to scoring again but this time the keeper touched the ball onto the post. Another free flowing move from Kelburne, starting deep inside their own half, passed the ball up the left, with Rory shooting inside the circle forcing the keeper into a good block. With the clock ticking, Kelburne's perseverance paid off when a well practiced short corner move straight off the training ground resulted in a great goal for Dick leveling the Final score at 2 - 2.

There is no game next week but Kelburne 5s return to action on Saturday 30th September when they travel to Hermitage Academy to play Helensburgh 3s.

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 1s Lose Out vs Clydesdale Western

On 15.9.17 - Kelburne Ladies first XI opened the National League campaign on Friday night against Clydesdale Westerns first XI. Travelling across Glasgow to Titwood for a 7.30pm passback the ladies squad consisted of a host of youngsters with a sprinkling of experienced stalwarts. For the first ten minutes the game looked to be quite evenly matched with both teams maintaining their shape and composure on the ball. Nevertheless it was Western that opened the deadlock in the 20th minute when Kelburne cleared the ball to the top of the circle and Western struck it into the bottom left corner. Kelburne Ladies however rallied again and when the half time whistle blew they were threatening the Western goal with their pace and tenacity. The score was 1-0 to Clydesdale at this point.

The second half saw Clydesdale came out all guns blazing. Within two minutes they had doubled their lead after a corner rebound was buried beyond returning keeper Nichola Brown. Maintaining their shape Kelburne Ladies pressed Western in spells, and were unlucky not to score from a breakaway corner. Lucy Bliss claiming a corner instead. Nevertheless Western were relentless and their fitness and experience shone through in the final ten minutes. The converted a corner, before quickly scoring a deflection, then again squeezing another corner past the Kelburne defence after the whistle had blew. The game finished 0-5 to Clydesdale although Kelburne will be heartened by the workrate and effort demonstrated by all players.

The ladies now travel to Aberdeen to face AA Merlin in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

Bromac Kelburne Men's 1s Beat Clydesdale 6-3 (Read update)

On 16.9.17:  The men's 1st team traveled to Titwood on Saturday afternoon to play Clydesdale. The team was high in confidence after the previous week's performance. The game started at a high tempo which led to a short corner being awarded after some great team play in forcing a foul in the oppositions D. From the resulting short corner Josh Cairns made no mistakes by putting his flick low to the left between keeper and postman. With the score 1-0 kelburne increased the pressure on Clydesdale which lead quickly to a second from Johnny Christie, some quick interchange play allowed him to have a snapshot past the keeper. With the score 2-0 Clydesdale got a foot hold back in the game through some slack kelburne defending allowing a back post goal from Clydesdale. With the score 2-1 clydesdale increased the pressure on the kelburne defence and managed to force a short corner as the 1st half was nearing an end. They were able to capitalise on the corner and made the score 2-2 at half time.

As the kelburne boys came back out for the second half they knew they had to step up the tempo to ensure they left with all 3 points. As the 2nd half began they were able to exploit some slack Clydesdale defending down the left to get the ball down the baseline and up stepped Micheal Christie to slot home at the near post. The was kick start kelburne needed as shortly after that the men were able to force another short corner and like in the first half Josh Cairns stepped up and slotted the ball home off the top into the side netting of the goal. The kelburne boys could sense there was more goals for the taking in this game and continued to increase the pressure on the Clydesdale goal. By winning another short corner. Like the previous 2 corners Josh Cairns made no mistake again to complete his hatrick of short corner goals. Putting the ball high to the keepers left leaving the keeper no chance. With the score 5-2 Clydesdale managed to get a bit of fortune by winning another short corner and again capitalising on the situation to make the score 5-3. With the clock winding down kelburne was able to make the score 6-3 through some lovely play by Johnny Christie just lifting the ball over the keeper. As the full time whistle went the 3 points were safe but the boys knew they have to keep improving for the next match.

Next match will be against Menzieshill in 2 weeks time.

In the late push back Bromac Ltd Kelburne M1 ground out a 6-3 win vs Clydesdale at Titwood. A hard fought 3 points for the Paisley team with goals coming from a Josh Cairns set piece hat-trick, two from Johnny Christie and one from Michael Christie.

Pro-Life Kelburne Men's 5s Lose out to Hillhead 6s

on 9.9.17 the young Kelburne 5s team turned up for their first home game of the season hoping to build on last weeks good performance. Youngster Rowan McClure maintained his place in goals and youngster Tommy Austin retained his place in the starting line up. Making his competitive debut was Rory Donaldson. Cheered on by the Kelburne 1st team the youngsters played well moving the ball about well and competing with one of last years top teams. In particular youngsters Rory and Tommy were linking up well and creating all sorts of difficulties for the Hillhead defence. On the other side of the pitch Scott Peters and Fergus Noble were also causing problems. Unfortunately missing the cutting edge of Don Tervit meant a lot of the good play came to nothing. In defence Callum Stewart was continuing to make the right back position his own with another strong performance. Both keepers comfortably handled anything which was thrown at them as an even first half finished goalless. HT Kelburne 5s 0-0 Hillhead 6s Kelburne started the 2nd half strongly with Dick Donaldson controlling the midfield with Aaron O'Hear and Sam Hunt working hard up front to keep the Hillhead defence on their toes. Kelburne created several penalty corners but they all came to nothing. At this point Kelburne had most of the play and were creating most of the chances but Hillhead always looked dangerous on the break. When defensive stalwart Hamish Walker went of injured with 15 minutes to go it allowed Hillhead more space. From one of their attacks Hillhead won a penalty corner with just 5 minutes to go and made no mistake firing into the bottom right hand corner. It was hard on the Kelburne side who deserved to take something from the game. The final minutes Kelburne pushed for the equaliser but couldn't find it. In a show of great sportsmanship Hillhead did not accept a penalty corner in the dying seconds as it had been mistakenly called. There were some great performances from the Kelburne youngsters including Roc Hart, Calum Jamieson and Callum Brown.

Pro-Life Kelburne Men's 2s Beat Grange 3-0

Grange 3s vs Kelburne 2s - Sept 9th 2017

Kelburne 2nd XI started their new season off with a bang and the best possible start they could have wanted. Controlling the whole game and comfortably winning 3-0.

After a season of heartache and disappointment, Kelburne 2s have had time to reflect on what was their worst season in at least 12 years. Having avoided relegation by some league changes, they have had much to prove and eager to show that last season was just a one-off. Captain Mark Connor recruiting some new talent into the squad bringing in some experience and leadership into a young developing team (welcome back Connor Bain from a year of absence, home grown "veteran" and masters superstar Stuart Robin, along with two new additions of Alan Walker & Mike Jones). With the help of new head coach Colin McClure, a wealth of work has been put in over the summer to get this team off the ground and today has paid off.

Playing the first game of the season away from home is never easy and their first fixture being at Grange was a tough obstacle.

The game started well for the paisley side, keeping the ball and making the opposition move made it difficult for grange to get hold of the ball. Kelburne being patient was paying off with Kelburne creating a few half chances, Andy Duff making space for himself and putting a few shots at goal forcing the home side's keeper to make some saves. The breakthrough came after 10 mins when Kelburne made some hard fast moving passes round the back, the ball came up the line from C. Bain to 'runner' C. Wilcox who picked the ball up and drove into the D to win a SC off a foot. The SC was converted by some quick thinking by A. Walker who was pressured at the top of the D, stayed calm and slotted the ball home on his reverse stick side nice and low through the keepers legs.

Kelburne being a goal up, kept the ball for the next 10 mins making grange work to try and get the ball and making them run all over the place. Grange were very limited to any chances towards the goal and didn't really work Scotland's young Logan McClure in goal. Kelburne's dominance in possession paid off when on the 25th minute another well worked move came off and ended with a goal. Again the ball round the back paid off with a first time pass up the line by the skipper M. Connor again finding C. Wilcox, who this time chose to pass the ball to R. McClure who then calmly slipped the ball past the grange keeper into the bottom corner.

Grange only now started to find their feet and were creating some chances that did test the young keeper. Making him pull off some great saves going bottom corner ( just making sure his lack of involvement didn't effect his focus) after a spell on the ball and some nice attacking moves grange were rewarded with a SC (that clearly hit the players knee, but despite him clearly in pain and with a bruise on his knee the decision stood) the SC was a well worked move and would have paid off if it wasn't for the non-stop playing Fraser Scott with a magnificent save off the line to prevent grange scoring and getting back in the game.

The 2nd half started unlike the 1st and it was Grange pressing hard with a few shots going just wide of the post, warning signs were up! Grange just could not take advantage of their possession and the score stayed the same for some time.  Niall Taylor and Martin Byrne making some great runs up front stretching the home side's defence and continuing to press with some great passing in midfield from Ewan Carmichael, J-G Shepherd and Mike Jones - creating chances for the forwards but just couldn't get that 3rd goal.

The 3rd goal came when Kelburne won a series of SC's on the 70th min.  Philip Nijsen stepped up and flicked the ball top left into the corner of the goal proving too much for the Grange keeper.

FT 3-0 to Kelburne - a great team performance

Round up:
Kelburne won a game they dominated and were in control of from start to finish. Great start to the new season - their next game sees them back at the amazing Glasgow Green pitch against a very tough side, Watsonians 2s.

Next week's match is against last season's runners-up and cup finalists, Watsonians 2s.

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 2s Draw vs Kinross

10.9.17

Another great performance from Kelburne Ladies 2s who stepped on to the pitch opposite recently relegated Kinross. Kelburne worked well in attack putting Kinross under lots of pressure and creating lots of opportunities in front of goal but were unfortunate not to convert them.  Kinross managed to counter attack on a few occasions and we're able to find their high player in the D and managed to put away to goals in the first half. After a motivating team talk at half time the Kelburne girls came out firing on all cylinders.

Creating chance after chance in front of goal and finally scored from a short corner with Phillipa Saddler slipping it past the keeper at back post.  Kinross had other ideas and again a space through the defence making it 3-1. Again Kelburne pushed forward and in the last 10 minutes through some great creative play managed to slot the ball past the Kinross keeper another twice (Holly Hendry and Laura Carlton) to end the game with a 3-3 draw.

Bromac Kelburne Men's 1s Start the Season with a Win vs Inverleith 5-1

After another tough preseason Bromac Kelburne were eager to get the 2017/2018 season underway as they look to win an unprecedented 14th League title in a row.  Bromac Kelburne opened their campaign against the east coast's Inverleith who were back in the top division after a short sabbatical in division 2.

The game started at a great pace as Kelburne stamped their authority and served noticed of their intentions for the season ahead. A slick passing move down the right side of the pitch created space for Ben Peterson to put the hosts in front. Johnny Christie then found space for himself and lashed a shot into the side netting. Then the goal of the day, Johnny Christie combining with his younger brother Michael as they waltzed past the Inverleith defence with a combination of one-twos to allow Michael to lob the keeper and put Bromac Kelburne in 3-0 at half time.

The second half followed a similar path with Bromac Kelburne dominating possession leaving Inverlieth with only a few breakaway chances. A short corner attempt from Josh Cairns resulted in a penalty with Josh powered high into the roof of the net. Concentration dropped and Inverlieth earned themselves a short corners which they duly converted to reduce the deficit. The scoring was completed in the final few minutes as Michael Christie got his second deflecting in from a Josh Cairns free hit.  Final score Bromac Kelburne 5 – Inverlieth 1

Pro-life Kelburne Men's 3s Beat Dumfries 4-3

The Kelburne 3rd XI took to the field on Saturday afternoon to play a physical and well organised Dumfries team. With some key players missing, Kelburne utilised a mixture of youth and experience with the likes of Jay Berry and Rory Anderson running the show up front, and the evergreen veterans Gordon Martin and Ian Wilson at the heart of the defence. Confidence was high before the game after a promising second half performance against Western the week prior, with high hopes we could carry the form over into this fixture. That never proved to be the case as Kelburne started lethargically, and found themselves two goals down within around the 20 minutes mark. These goals came around as a result of poor marking and tackling at the back, with sloppy ball retention within the midfield and attack only worsening the situation. Instead of letting the heads drop, new captain David Bone was heard to be vocal in the encouragement of the youngsters, as the team began to sharpen up, and press the older Dumfries team. The response came when Jay Berry absolutely smashed one into the back of the net after 25 minutes. The Dumfries keeper was lucky to get out its way, as it would have probably taken his head clean off! A great way to open his goal tally for the season. Almost immediately, Kelburne had the ball in the goal again, but Craig Speirs deflection was ruled out by the umpire. Disappointing, but the game was beginning to turn. With Kelburne in the acendency, the whistle went for half time.

Half Time - Kelburne 1 - 2 Dumfries With the promise of an increase in work rate and passion, the boys took to the field for the second half raring go. Passes seemed sharper, voices were starting to be heard, and the 3rd XI was beginning to look like a team fully up for this game. This was rewarded, as when Robert Martin stepped up to strike from a short corner, the result proved to be clinical, and the ball was cooly slotted past the diving Dumfries keeper. The comeback was nearly complete, and up stepped Rory Anderson to finalise the turn around with a shot from close range after some pinball in the Dumfries box. Job done you would think? Think again. Some poor defending on the right hand side allowed Dumfries to burst forward and equalise and suddenly, Kelburne began to take the foot off the gas. Their goal was followed by some close shaves at short corners and the attacks that followed. Matthew Retson was to thank for the score to remain at 3-3 with some cracking saves and blocks to deny the frustrated forwards. With time against both teams, a winner was looking unlikely, but Sandeep Singh was the man who proved to be the match winner, with his strike sending the boys into a 4-3 lead, with only a matter of minutes remaining. Time was then called and the relief was clear. Despite not being at our best, we managed to claim the 3 points and open our tally for the season, against formidable opponents. Improvements are needed for the visit of GHK next week, but I'm sure the boys will be raring to go after this weeks success. Special mentions go to Matthew Retson, Bob Martin and Jay Berry for some brilliant individual performences, and a massive well done to the entire team for grinding out the result. Onwards and upwards.

Bromac Kelburne Men's 1s Win vs Hillhead - 7.9.17

On Thursday 7th September Bromac Kelburne played Hillhead in a preseason mayhem match - a good firm win of 5-2 over the Hillhead boys set the Bromac boys up for their first match of the League this coming Saturday.  The Bromac Kelburne boys are eager to get the 2017/2018 season underway as they look to win an unprecedented 14th League title in a row.

They play East's Inverleith this Saturday 12th.

Pro-Life Kelburne Men's 5s Draw vs Helensburgh

Pro-Life Kelburne Men's 5s Draw with Helensburgh 2s - 2.9.17

Kelburne got off to a great start in the West District Division 3 with a 2-2 draw against Helensburgh 2s.  

The youngsters, Fergus Noble and Sam Hunt combined well to set up 10 year old debutante Tommy Austin, who smashed the ball into the net within the first few minutes of the match. As both teams settled into the game, Kelburne did most of the pressing with Helensburgh playing on the counter attack. 10 minutes in and Kelburne almost scored again only to be denied by some good goalkeeping. Helensburgh enjoyed a period of pressure and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal in the 14th minute. The mix of experience and youth worked well for Kelburne as they battled back and forced the Helensburgh keeper into another good save. At the other end the Kelburne defence did well to minimise shots on the goal of youngster Rowan McClure, who was also making his debut, with Willie Hunt often pushing out, reading the game well and breaking up the Helensburgh attack. The Helensburgh keeper was busy again after Dick Donaldson went on a run, found Sam in the circle who then turned and shot. From a Kelburne short corner, the ball was laid off to Fergus and his powerful shot was turned around the post by the Helensburgh keeper. Kelburne finished the first half looking balanced, making frequent attacks and keeping up the pressure.

Don Tervit joined the play as the second half started but it was Helensburgh who got out of the blocks fast, almost scoring with a great ball into the circle which no one could connect with the Kelburne goal wide open. The presence of Don now added another dimension to the Kelburne attack with Dick, Willie and Scott Peters picking him out with some nice passing. Helensburgh then scored a second goal against the run of play. The positive energy from the Kelburne youngsters forced Helensburgh onto the back foot for the remainder of the game. After a flurry of short corners, Helensburgh survived again with the keeper saving shots from Dick, Aaron O'Hear and Tommy. With the clock ticking down Kelburne stepped up a gear with Ian pushing up and Don becoming a real threat. Don was finally rewarded with a great equaliser, beating a few players on the edge of the circle before finding the space to smash a powerful shot into the net. Kelburne played out the game comfortably but could easily have won the match if it weren't for some superb goalkeeping.

Next week, 9th September, the Kelburne 5s play against Hillhead 6s at Glasgow Green with a 4-30pm pushback
