Hockey Club History
In 1921 Ferguslie Hockey Club was formed by employees from J&P Coats’ Mill at Ferguslie, Paisley. The club colours were yellow shirts with black collars and cuffs, yellow socks with black top and black shorts. The club played on grass pitches at Ferguslie Cricket Club and Millerston, Paisley and ran two teams playing in the South West District Leagues.
In 1969 coinciding with the run down of the Ferguslie Mills the club was struggling for players and an agreement was reached to transfer the Club to the grass pitches at Whitehaugh, Paisley and rename the club as Kelburne Hockey Club.
The original members that transferred from Ferguslie to Kelburne, included – Ronnie Forsyth, President, Duncan Adams, 1st xi captain, John Benvie, Barry Carmichael, Ronnie Currie, Sandy Fleming, Alex Millar, Ken McLauglan, Malcolm Cawley, Murray McDonald, Jack Ralph, Alastair Russell, Andy Simpson, Gerry Toner, & Matt Wylie
Since 1969 the Club has flourished from been an unfashionable Club to the top Club in Scotland with strong men’s, ladies and youth sections. This has been the result of years of hard work based on a strong youth policy.
The 1st XI were the team of the 1990s winning GB, National and European competitions, and after a gap the current team of the mid 2000s are emulating their predecessors.
