Kelburne Ladies 3s successful start to the season

Kelburne Ladies 3's v Ayr Ladies 2's - Saturday 5thSeptember 2015.

At a sunny Glasgow Green Kelburne Ladies 3's hosted Ayr Ladies 2's in their opening match of the season.  Kelburne Ladies 3's are predominately a development squad and three players Kim Crawford, Abbie Houston and Philippa Saddler made their competitive debut playing Ladies hockey. Lynne Houston returned to play competitive hockey after a number of year?s absence alongside her two daughters.

In blistering heat the Kelburne squad commanded most of the possession in the first half, claiming three short corners and a number of shots on goals that they unfortunately failed to convert.  The experienced Ayr squad broke on a number of occasions, but stellar performances from Emma Ryan and her back line ensured Abbie Houston remained untested in goals.

Half Time:-  Kelburne Ladies 3's  0-0  Ayr Ladies 2's

The start of the second half saw Kelburne Ladies come out fighting with some lovely attacks down both flanks courtesy of Neave Halliday and new player, Leanne McKissock. Holly Hendry and Lucy Bliss were extremely lively up front and their efforts soon paid off with a long corner in the opening minute.

Nevertheless it took until the 58th minute for the home squad to score.  Katrina Miller and Lucy Bliss linked up well in the circle to claim a corner. Due to the absence of Ryan at this moment Ellie Houston stepped up to strike this. Pressure from Bliss in the corner diverted the defenders attention, and the ball squeezed itself into the bottom right corner, for the opening goal.

Kelburne remained in control for the remaining ten minutes and created a flurry of chances.  Nevertheless the single goal was enough to claim all three points from this opening fixture.
