Prolife Fitness Ladies 2s progress to the next round of the Cup

Prolife Fitness Ladies 2s ? 1 (Penalties ? 5)

Granite City Wanderers (GCW)? 1 (Penalties ? 4)

Saturday 5th September

What a fantastic day for Prolife Kelburne Ladies 2s to kickoff the 2015-2016 season in glorious sunshine at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. With the girls fired up and ready to go the game started with Kelburne pushing forward and putting pressure on the opposition making some great plays down the side channels and into the ?D? but unfortunately were unable to capitalise on the chances. Play was very well matched with both teams working hard and creating chances. Kelburne?s solid defence controlled by Eilidh Fleming in the goal managed to keep GCW at bay. Just before half time the young forwards worked well to achieve a short corner, pushed out to top ?D? by Captain Jen Morgan the shot, struck by Kathryn Meenan, was cleared by the GCW defence.

Half Time 0-0

Coming into the second half the girls were even more determined to push forward and put the opposition under pressure and after 10 minutes all the hard work paid off as forward Olivia Saddler swept the ball into the back of the net. Not long after this GCW caught Kelburne on the back foot and managed to equalise with a run along the base line. The rest of the half was a battle for possession by both teams and trying to keep each other out of their respective ?D?s. Sarah Wilson and Sarah McHard worked hard to work the ball up the wings but the team were unable to create the chances needed.

Full time 1-1

As this was a Cup match a winner was needed so 5 players from each team stepped up to take penalty flicks. A huge well done to Frances McKeown, Olivia Cain, Erin Cain, Olivia Saddler and Kathryn Meenan who calmly slipped the ball into the net to win the match 5-4
