Q-Bikes Mens Kelburne 2s continue winning start to season

On Saturday 3rd October Q-Bikes Gents Kelburne 2stravelled the short journey across Glasgow to play uddingston rivas men's 2s hoping to continue their fine 100% start to the season

The game started with kelburne dictating possession and uddingston playing a counter attack style via long scoops from the back. The first opportunity to score arrived at kelburne in the 6th minute when Ross Wallace played the ball off a defenders foot in the D. Up stepped Ross MacPherson aka "Lenny" to dispatch the ball into the bottom right corner from the penalty corner. Kelburne continued to probe however it should've been 1-1 but to a fantastic off the line clearance from both Doug Turner in goals and Mikey Nicol in defence. After this scare kelburne upped their game once more and were rewarded when high pressure from Fraser Hutchison and Miles Goldie forced the uddingston midfield into turning the ball over which then provided Andrew Duff to score his first of the game after being fouled trying to round the keeper. A penalty flick was awarded and duff stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to make 2-0. The rest of the half continued in the same way with the kelburne defence consisting of Mark Connor, Fraser Scott, Neil McIntyre and Mikey Nicol playing the ball around the back looking for space to play the ball into for the forwards and midfielders to run onto. No more goals were scored however JG Shepherd had a great chance to add to the score after Don Tervitt again forced the Uddingston defence into making a mistake and Shepherd pounced only for the keeper to get a nick on the ball as he attempted to round him

After a stern half time team talk to be more clinical in the 2nd half, kelburne rallied to try and get an early goal to kill off the match. However their efforts weren't rewarded until midway through the second half. After having numerous goal scoring opportunities and Penalty corners cleared it took some magic (and some luck) from Andrew Duff to score his second and kelburnes third of the match to effectively kill off the tie. After collecting the ball just outside the D from Miles Goldie, a combination of skill and using his large frame to block and bounce off four defenders enabled him to have a clear sight at goal and he didn't disappoint, coolly slotting the ball under the on rushing keeper. 3-0. With that goal scored kelburne slacked off and to their own demise. Uddingston capitalised on a turnover in their own Half and broke with pace and guile. They played the ball quickly up to the lone forward who held off challenges from Fraser Scott the slot the ball to a fellow forward for a strike at goal and although the kelburne keeper saved his initial shot there was nothing he could do about the ricochet as the ball hit off the attackers stick and looped into the goal. 3-1. With this goal Uddingston had their tails up and soon almost made it 3-2 but for a superb left hand save from the keeper. This sparked kelburne into life for the final 10 minutes and they kept the ball for a while. Through this possession they scored a fourth with 5 minutes to play. Neil McIntyre stepping up from defence, collecting the ball from Fraser Hutchison and running unopposed into the D to unleash an unstoppable reverse stick strike into the top right hand corner. 4-1. The final five minutes were very controlled with kelburne and Uddingston keeping the ball at the back knowing the game was over as a contest
