Young Pro-Life Kelburne 5th XI get back to winning ways

Pro-Life Kelburne 5th XI vs. Rottenrow 3rd XI

Saturday 14th November

Again, a youthful Kelburne 5th XI made a good start to thegame, putting pressure on the experienced Rottenrow side from the off. Rottenrow dominated possession for a spell before a Kelburne counter-attack forced the Rottenrow keeper into making a vital block. Finn Haliday replaced Lucas Farndale in midfield, with Lucas being drafted to the 3rd XI for a cup game, but Finn threatened throughout the game, linking up well with Gavin Bantges (c) and Fraser Whiting. A driving run down the left flank led to the first Kelburne PC of the game. Finn forced another save from the Rottenrow keeper, who got across well to palm the ball away to safety. Moments later, a Rottenrow counter led to the first goal of the game, after a dubious foul on the edge of the Kelburne circle. However, Kelburne rallied and scored five minutes through some nice play between Niall Taylor and Finn Halliday from half-time to level the game.

Half time Pro-Life Kelburne 5th XI 1 (Finn Halliday)-1 Rottenrow 3rd XI

After a few words from Gavin Bantges at half-time, reminding the young squad about their previous game against Giffnock, Kelburne started off on the front foot once again. The team talk obviously worked, as Kelburne kept their structure and discipline, a complete change from the second half last week. Strong defensive work by Willie Hunt and Donald Campbell saw every Rottenrow counter-attack picked apart. Rottenrow were soon awarded three PC's in succession, with the defensive team of Willie Hunt, Gavin Bantges, Ryan Wood and Donald Campbell working well to break down the Rottenrow routines. Kelburne countered from this, with Aaron Primrose rifling in the second Kelburne goal of the game after some strong play by the midfield three of Whiting, Bantges and Halliday. With the three points firmly in the yellow, Kelburne set about making sure that the game stayed that way.
