Edinburgh University 2-1 Bromac Kelburne Men?s 1st XI
Saturday 21st November
Scorer Chris Nelson
Kelburne travelled through to Edinburgh for a late afternoon push back looking to continue their winning run despite missing a few players. The game started in freezing conditions with both teams having chances to open the lead early on. As temperatures dropped there was discussion between the umpires on whether the game should continue. It was decided to carry on unless conditions got worse. The first half carried on evenly with both teams winning corners and looking to use their short corner specialists. Unfortunately for Kelburne it was Edinburgh University?s specialist that struck first opening the scoring low into the bottom corner despite goalkeeper Ben Rennie and post man Chris Nelsons best efforts. After going behind Kelburne began to pick up the intensity with Jack McKenzie twice unlucky not to equalize firstly deflecting over the bar from a great pass from Adam Bain and the forcing a save from the keeper from a Jonny Christie deflection across goal. Despite these chances Kelburne went into half time with it all to do if they wanted to take 3 points form the game.

After the break Kelburne came out of the blocks quickly looking for the goal they needed to get back into the game but again could not find what they were looking for. A silly yellow card from Craig Morton reduced Kelburne to 10 men for a period and released some of the pressure on the Uni defence. Even when back to the full quota of players Kelburne could still not fin the breakthrough and as they pushed further up the field, uni managed to hit on the break to score a second goal and give them a cushion going into the last ten minutes of the game. Kelburne forced a few more chances and finally with a few minutes to go got a goal from a corner that broke down with Chris Nelson firing into the bottom corner. It was too little too late and Edinburgh uni held out for the win.
