Kelburne Q bikes Mens 2s slip to 2nd in league following hard fought draw

Kelburne Q bikes Mens 2s v Hillhead 2s

Saturday 21st November

On Saturday, Kelburne Q bikes Mens 2s played against a strong Hillhead side, also competing for 1st position in the league. The game almost never went ahead due to the temperature of the pitch dropping in the cold weather conditions. Despite this, Kelburne started the game strong with chances from JG Shepard and Don Tervit nevertheless the Hillhead Goalkeeper and Defence made it hard for the forwards to find space and pick out passes. After around 15 minutes Hillhead began to break through Kelburne's press with long passes and aerial balls; however the defence managed to confidently win possession back for the side in yellow. It was from a counter attack that Kelburne managed to break the deadlock, with a pass forward into the midfield area, Matt McGinley turned and played the ball forward to Andrew Duff who drove with the ball to the top of the D, turned onto his reverse and placed it into the goal just inside the post. This lead was held for the rest of the first half and Kelburne went into the break with a slight advantage.

The second half was similar to the first with possession changing hands and both teams finding it hard to score. The two sides were able to create chances and win short corners but neither were able to score that pivotal goal which would seal the game for Kelburne or give Hillhead a chance to win the game. With around ten minutes to go after conceding one or two corners, Kelburne were no longer able to keep the ball out of their goal and Hillhead found themselves well and truly back in the game. Despite this late goal, neither team were able to score another, leaving the score at 1-1. Kelburne, are still in with a shout of winning the league if they win all of their remaining games.
