Pro Life Kelburne Men?s 3s back on track with convincing 4-2 win Over Uddingston 3s

Uddingston 3s  v ProLife Kelburne Men?s 3s

Saturday 28th November

An early start meant a different 3s team than usual with a few youngsters missing but the ones still on show played a key part in ensuring a great victory over a young Uddingston team on the day.    Their new pitch played immaculately well under the sodden conditions experienced outside the pitch and a very competitive and skilful match ensued.

Kelburne started with the initiative and moved the ball around the back well, with left-back Alex Bogan thwarting any Uddingston attacks down their right and releasing the ball quickly to the forwards to take the initiative.  Kelburne had a few chances in the first 15 minutes, with Niall Taylor hitting the bar with a great reverse stick, Rory Anderson and veteran Billy Anderson hitting high in to the net but for the goalkeeper to bring off some great saves.  A through ball to David Bone with a clear shot on target also went astray and Kelburne were getting anxious to get their goal account opened.     From their 1st Penalty Corner however, the nerves were settled with a great drag-flick execution by David Fowler low in to the corner and 5 minutes later, it was quickly followed by a goal from Kelburne youngster Niall Taylor, prodding home a loose ball under the goalkeeper legs after a great reactionary stop on the penalty spot.   Two goals up and coasting, the midfield and defence slackened off and allowed a cross-D pass to be deflected in to the net by a delighted Uddingston Junior.  With 5 minutes left in the first-half, another replica short-corner move saw Fowler net his 2nd goal, leaving the young goalkeeper floundering as the ball whistled past him in to the net.

Half time:  Uddingston   1 ? 3   Pro Life Kelburne Men?s 3s

The 2nd half started the same way with Kelburne with the upper-hand and putting pressure on the Uddingston defence. The rain was starting to bite by this time and the game-pace dropped off a little, mistakes being made all-round with the game falling in to a quiet lull, only to be awakened by a great through ball from Fowler to Taylor hovering around high up the field on the penalty spot.   A great stick stop from the bullet cross was followed by a spin and a lob over the goalkeeper in to the waiting net for his second of the match and Kelburnes  4th.  Four goals to 1 up and coasting again for Kelburne team.   The game was petering out in the final minutes when Uddingston scored a consolation goal.  A Kelburne hit on the side-line was over-ruled by the umpire, only for the senior Kelburne players to crazily argue for a different outcome, leaving the Uddingston players to run the ball in, cross and score against a missing defence and a helpless Dougie McEwan in goal.   An overall fine performance from the 3rd XI with some very good performances from the juniors, but with work still to be done on basic ball-control, movement and game awareness.
