Kelburne Remain Unbeaten

Kelburne 1st XI faced old rivals Dundee Wanderers in the first match of the post split league at Bellahouston.

Kelburne entered this match with Michael Christie and Ian Scholefield missing through injury, and U21 GB Internationalist Gordon McIntyre formerly of Greenock making his debut, U18 Internationalist David Forsyth was also added to the squad.

Playing in difficult conditions due to the constant downpour Kelburne pressed continuously and it was no surprise when Kelburne took the lead from one of their many short corners. Last years Scottish player of the year Johnny Christie opened the scoring when his shot from the short corner eluded the Wanderers keeper, Mark Ralph quickly added a second when he scored following a goalmouth scramble. Kelburne were then dealt a blow when influential Scottish Internationalist Chris Nelson suffered a knee injury and played no further part in the match.

GB Internationalist Niall Stott then scored the goal of the game when his fantastic solo run was finshed off with a perfectly executed reverse stick shot to give Kelburne a 3-0 interval lead.

After the interval Johnny Christie completed his hat trick with a tap in and an unstoppable volley, Wanderers scored a late consolation goal for a 5-1 Kelburne victory.

This victory extends Kelburnes 100% record for the season having won their 10 league matches played. Highlights of this scrappy encounter were Johnny Christies hat trick, and the strong performances from teenagers David Forsyth and Gordon McIntyre.

This weekend sees Kelburne face Grange in Edinburgh knowing that a victory will put Kelburne within touching distance of a third consecutive national title, Kelburne are under no illusion that they will have to improve considerably for this match. Kelburne hope that Michael Christie & Chris Nelson will be back from injury for this crucial match, Ian Scholefield remains doubtful.
