Azzurri Kelburne 11 ? 3 Gordonians
Holders Azzurri Kelburne welcomed Gordonians to a stormy and rain lashed Bellahouston for this U18 Scottish Cup Quarter Final.
A young Azzurri Kelburne squad scored within 30 seconds of the start when a Josh Cairns scoop from the start was illegally stopped by a Gordonians defender and from the resultant free hit Alan Forsyth deflected the ball past the ordonians keeper.
Azurri Kelburne doubled their lead when Ryan Edgar pounced on a defensive to smash the ball home.
After 20 minutes Gordonians got back into the game when a lapse in the Azzurri defence allowed the Gordonians striker to squeeze the ball past Greig Cunningham in the Kelburne goal.
Azzurri Kelburne then had their first short corner after Alan Forysth hit the post after being well set up by skipper Michael Bremner. A brillant solo run by Ben Petersen almost resulted in another Azzurri goal but his shot just went past the post with the Gordonians keeper beaten.
From their 2nd short corner Josh Cairns scored with a drag flick high into the opposition goal, 3-1 Azzurri Kelburne.
Alan Forsyth then saw his shot well saved by the Gordonians keeper, a short corner followed and Josh Cairns scored his second and his teams 4th with an identical goal to his first.
With 5 minutes remaining of the first half there then came a flurry of goals firstly Gordonians scored after yet another Azzurri defensive lapse, skipper Michael Bremner restored the 3 goal lead when his mistimed shot was deflected into the Gordonians goal by a luckless defender and Alan Forsyth scored his second and Azzurri?s 6th after being set up by Jason Cairns.
This gave Azzurri Kelburne a 6-2 half time lead.
Second half started with a Michael Bremner solo run into the heart of the Gordonians ?D? though his final shot did not match the quality of the run.
12 year old Lee Morton then scored Azzurri Kelburnes 7th after a well timed pass from Alan Forsyth who completed his hat -trick 2 minutes later with a cheeky goal from the heart of the Gordonians defence.
Alan Forsyth then missed a gilt edged chance after a fantastic scoop from Josh Cairns left him free in the Gordonians circle but he hurried his pick up and the chance was lost.
Josh Cairns was then denied a hat trick of penalty corners when his attempt was disallowed by the umpire, but he soon completed his hat trick from the penalty spot when his flick flew past the Gordonians keeper to give Kelburne a 9-2 lead.
Lee Morton & Ryan Edgar both failed to add to their goal tally when given a chance by the impressive Alan Forsyth.
14 year old Ben Petersen then scored Azzurri?s 10th with a well taken goal, but poor defending allowed Gordonians another consolation goal.
Ben Petersen then completed the Azzurri scoring with a fantastic team goal after being set up by Craig Morton.
The young Azzurri Kelburne moved a step closer to retaining their U18 national title with a great victory against a physically stronger and far older squad from Aberdeen.
Unsung heroes on the day who all contributed to this victory were Andrew Kinnear, Kenny MacDonald, Marc Connor, Miles Goldie, Craig Morton, Simon Urie & Ross Lee.
Azzurri U18?s now move Indoors to Perth next Sunday as they look to adding to their silverware though task will be difficult.
