Ayr 2ndXI 2 ? 4 Kelburne 4th XI
The mighty Kelburne 4thXI completed their league campaign on Saturday, with a comfortable 4-2 victory over Ayr 2nd XI at sunny Cambusdoon.
With 2nd place in the league already assured, this game was more of a warm up for this weekends Scottish Reserve Cup Semi Final match against Gordonians.
With this in mind, the 4?s set out in determined fashion, aiming to protect their 22 game unbeaten run. However, this was going to prove a bit more difficult than expected, due to an extremely heavy pitch, nicknamed ? The Beach, ? due to the amount of sand on the playing surface!!
The match started brightly for the 4?s, who enjoyed most of the early exchanges, but just as they looked as though they would open the scoring, Ayr, in their first attack of the game, scored from a penalty corner.
This proved to be merely a temporary set back, and soon after The ?burne equalised.
Goal Machine Alan ?Coisty? Gillies, scoring his 44th goal of the season after great link up play with strike partner John Fergusson.
The second half started with Kelburne on the attack once again, and soon after they managed to take the lead.
Captain Fantastic Alyn James latched onto a loose ball in the D, and superbly rounded the keeper, before unleashing a ferocious shot past the helpless defenders on the goal line.
Goal number three, was soon to follow, and once again it was Captain Fantastic Alyn James, on hand to smash home from close range, to give his side the two goal cushion their play deserved.
The ?burne weren?t finished there, and James McRea?s well taken goal 10 minutes from the end, ensured the three points were going back to Paisley.
Ayr did manage to pull a goal back just before the final whistle, which turned out to be no more than a consolation goal.
An accomplished display from the 4?s, who go into this weekends cup game game in Dundee, in confident mood.
