Kelburne 5th XI earned a draw at local rivals Clydesdale 4th XI as they wrapped up their pre-season preparations with a 4-4 draw.
Against the run of the play Clydesdale opened the scoring when a defensive lapse saw them score a tap in at the back post. John Gerard Shephard was causing all sorts of problems on the left hand side of the field and from his good play he earned a penalty corner, that was scored by 12 year old Adam McInnes low into the Clydesdale goal.
JG Shephard was then unlucky when his goal bound shot was saved by a Clydesdale foot and he put the resultant penalty wide of the goal.
1-1 was the interval score.
The second half saw Kelburne lose 2 quick goals, due to defensive lapses. Kelburne continued to push forward and it came as no surprise when club legend, "Alfie" Gillies pulled one back, Harry Godfrey then earned Kelburne another penalty when his goal bound shot was saved illegally by a Clydesdale defender and Harry also put his penalty wide of the goal. Clydesdale then restored their 2 goal advantage with another well taken goal.
Alfie Gillies then scored his second of the match after a fine team move involving 6 team mates as ball was played quickly from the back in a succession of quick passes that resulted with Alfie finishing high into the Clydesdale goal.
With time running out Kelburne earned another short corner and again Adam McInnes scored his 2nd and Kelburnes 4th with a crashing drive past the Clydesdale keeper.
This was a fantastic result for a youthful Kelburne team led by veteran skipper Steve Bain. Next week sees them start their league campaign with a tough home match against Hillhead 4th XI.
