2's start with a win

After an arduous journey up to Edinburgh the young side lined up for the first game of the season.
The game started with very scrappy play by both sides with Kelburne struggling to work with each other.  The half progressed with Kelburne becoming more comfortable and only letting Melville attack with long balls through the defence. Most attempts on goal were through short corners but Kelburne were unsuccessful in all occasions. Other attempts were broken down due to lack of basics. Another attempt was created by a long run by  Fraser Hutchinson down the left to open up Ryan Edgar who took a shot that just went wide. So the first half finished nothing each.

After the team talk Kelburne looked as if they knew what they were doing with most of ball being in Melville?s half. The Melville?s attack started to feel the pressure and started to push their weight about but Michael Nicol stood up to them well and won fouls on many occasions. In retaliation Kelburne started to string balls between yellow shirts with everyone working together to set up Miles Goldie, top D, to pass to Ryan Edgar who slotted it in back post. 1-0 Kelburne.

Kelburne keeping the pace of the game as high as they could despite some ridiculous decisions by the umpire continued pressurising the Melville defence. With a great run by Euan Carmichael into the D to win yet another penalty corner gave Kelburne another chance on goal. With scrappy play in the D the ball ended up with Edgar who put it home for his second goal of the game. Melville came back strong but the Kelburne defence held there ground well and gave Johnny Barlow a comfortable game in the sun. With a last attack from Melville down the left side coming to nothing the game ended.

It was a good result for the first game of the season but there is still a lot to work on for this development team.
