Austria 2-3 Scotland

Kelburne stars were at the heart of the action as Scotland secured their first victory at the World Cup Qualifier with an exciting 3-2 victory over Austria.

Scotland started the game well and dominated the early possession, creating several chances, none of which were converted.Kenny Bain and Chris Grassicks(Inverleith) missed opportunities to score and the Austrians content to defend and attack on the break managed to gain the lead from a well worked

short corner routine

The Scots hit back when a Mark Ralph pass into the D was deflected and 'Burne midfielder Ross Stott was on hand to fire home from close range.
Scotland created several more chances with Bain again going close, a reverse stick shot shaving the bar. Again the Austrian side hit the Scots with the sucker punch as they again took the lead with only ten minutes left.
Scotland refused to lie down and upped the tempo in the final ten minutes.
Michael Christie, who performed well, picked up the ball and drove along the base line. His slipped pass was met by a deflection from Kenny Bain to bring them level.
Christie was again involved in the move that was to lead to the winning goal. His penetrating run was illegally halted in the D. From the resulting corner Kelburne set piece specialist Mark Ralph was able to score with a trademark high drag flick.
The Scots now move into fourth place in the pool, only a point behind Malaysia who lost 4-2 to hosts New Zealand. Scotland face Malaysia next on Thursday, 12th November at 14:00 (NZDT).
