Scotland Secure Bronze Medal

China 2-2 Scotland (Scotland win 5-3 on penalties)
Scotland secured the bronze medal in the World Cup Qualifier following a dramatic 5-3 penalty victory over China.

What an amazing game of hockey this was and even after 85 minutes nothing separated the teams. However, Scotland opened the scoring in the 18th minute through and field goal to Wei Adams.(Grange)

In sensational fashion, that was matched two minutes later through penalty corner conversion to Yixian LIU.

Once again, Scotland fought back and were rewarded in the 24 minute, when our own Kenneth Bain scoring a field goal sending the Scotland team members wild!

Scotland went in at the break with a well deserved lead!

Second half was very much even but China levelled just into the break, a 38th penalty corner goal.

Scotland looked the better of the teams at this stage and were very unlucky not to get a late goal. But the shot went agonisingly wide.

Full time came with the scores locked at 2-2, we headed for golden goal extra time. Both teams had few chances but neither could find the golden goal.

A penalty stroke competition would decide the 3v4 place at the BDO World Cup Qualifier.

Scotland went first and were successful; as were the Chinese. On the third stroke attempt the pressure was too much for Tianjun SUN whose feeble stroke was easily saved by Allan Dick (Surbiton) in goal for Scotland.

That was the opening for Scotland who nailed the next two strokes to claim third place! Kelburne's Mark Ralph and Michael Christie netting, before Ross Stott, who had an excellent tournament slammed home the winning penalty to spark wild celebrations.

A great result for the boys. Congratulations from all had Kelburne, good to see the hard work put in on the training pitch and the gym bringing rewards on the pitch.

New Zealand won the final, coming from a goal behind to beat Malaysia 2-1 to claim their place at the World Cup in India next March.
