Men's 1 in Indoor Action

The Mens 1's were back in action last weekend as they returned to Bells sports centre for 2 indoor games. With only one win needed to guarantee 1st division status for next season 'burne shuffled their pack slightly and brought youngster Michael Nicol in for his first time playing

The first match for Kelburne was against Grange. In the end it finished a 5-5 draw but was a good game over all. The game started off fast and furious with Kelburne playing good hockey. There was signs straight from the start Kelburne were going to score first with a few attacks coming close to goals but were just missing that crucial last touch to put it in the goal. The first and only card of the game was given after 5 minutes into the first half. Michael Nicol, on debut, failed to retreat following a foul,  and was awarded a green card for his indiscretion.

The first goal came shortly after this when Josh Cairns made a great run across the D with the ball then calmly and accurately past the ball to the back post where Nicol was there to tap it in to score the first goal of the match. After helping set up a goal Cairns ran up and scored for himself to make it 2-0 Kelburne. After some great defending by the Kelburne?s defence and some good stops by Mark Fulton in goals, Grange managed to get a goal back. While Kelburne was still trying to figure out how this had happened Grange were able to pull back another goal to make it 2-2.

Just before half time Kelburne managed to put themselves a goal up. This came through Cairns again from a short corner.
Half time 3-2 Kelburne.

Grange came out fighting in the second half and managed to get a goal back to make the scores even. Chris Nelson then put Kelburne in front with a mazy run and finish. The lead however didn?t last long Grange quickly scored again making it 4-4. Cairns then saw a chance to put Kelburne in front again which he calmly took to score his 3rd of the match. As time was running out Grange manage to get a scrappy goal to make it 5 each

Kelburne then went on to play Hillhead in the second game of the day. Although we went on to win the game Hillhead scored the first goal quickly in the first half. They then came back and scored again to make it 2-0. Kelburne were not too happy about being 2 goals down so they fixed this with a little shaken into action and were soon back on level terms after goals from indoor specialist Gordy 'Macattack' McIntyre and the impressive Cairns, who appeared to be reveling in his new forward role. Then Iain Scholefield then made it 3-2 after a good move involving the whole team to get the ball in the D. The first half ended with Kelburne leading 3 goals to 2.
5 minutes into the 2nd half and 'Macattack' managed to score after a great run to get into the D.  Hillhead were able to score 2 quick goals to draw the teams level. Schofield then added his second to put 'Burne 5-4 ahead, a lead from which they never looked back from. As it was now 5 minutes from the final buzzer Hillhead took off their keeper and put on a kicking back which proved to be a fatal flaw. Kelburne took full advantage of this by scoring another 4 goals. Cairns further enhanced his reputation with another 2 goals making his total for the day 6 goals, while Macattak and Scholefield were also able to complete their hat tricks making the final score 9-4 to the 'Burne.
