With the Gents 1st and 2nd teams having the weekend off, the spotlight this week falls on the second derby of the season between the 3's and the 4's. The form guide will be thrown out of the window as both sides battle for bragging rights for the rest of the season. The game pushes back at 1pm at Bellahouston.
The 3's under the expert guidance of skipper Alan Ralph have been in good form this year and are close to the top of the league. However, they did suffer a 3-2 reverse against Western last week and Ralph will be keen for his charges to recover this week. Midfielder Andrew Bremner returns to the line up, fresh from winning the indoor league with the 2nd XI, to bolster the midfield and he will be a key player in the battle along with James Macrae. Up front the responsibility will fall to Chis McNulty and youngster Adam McInnes to find a way past the wiley defenders in the 4th XI.Ralph commented.
"The boys will be up for this one, especially after last week. We are keen to get our season back on track and thier is no better game for that than a derby."
The 4th team have endured a difficult season this year and have been unable to field a settled line up from week to week. This is again evident as skipper Alan Malcolmson, Alfie Gillies and Greg 'the hammer' Van Hombergh are all ruled out of the fixture. This has resulted in call ups for promising 5th team players Fabian Goldie and Steven Robbie and they along with the midfield duo of Scott Hamilton and James 'Arnie' Currie will have to be at thier best if they are to take anything out of the game.
The 3's scraped a dubious 2-1 victory the last time out and another close game is in prospect this weekend.
The gents 5's are also in action prior to the derby as they face Dumfries at 11.30 at Bellahouston. The youngsters in the team have made great strides so far this year and coach Stevie Bain will be looking for this continue this weekend.
