Edinburgh Cala 4
Edinburgh Cala (Away)
Sat 13 Feb
This game marked the full return of Julie Bryce and Kerri Nunnery (right) to the outdoor league and the start of the ladies Journey to Europe!
Kelburne made an excellent start to the game by winning a penalty corner in the very first minute of the game. Kelburne continued to press but could not convert any chances. There was some very good build up play from deep in the Kelburne defence all the way up to the attacking D however they still could not find the net. Kelburne looked to be in control of the game, however Cala always appeared threatening on the counter attack. Kelburne went into half time feeling confident that a goal would becoming their way.
Again the first 10mins of the second half Kelburne came out fighting and looking the stronger team. It was against the run of play that Cala scored a fast break and the kelburne heads went down. Cala went onto score a second and a third in quick succession! Kelburne tried to reorganise and get some structure back into their game. Kelburne had a near miss when Kate Longbotham dived in front post and the ball went wide of the goal. Cala could never be ignored on the fast break and again they scored late on in the game. In a final attempted on goal Kerri Nunnery managed to slot in a goal back post to finish the game 4-1.
It was clear to see the frustration and disappointment on the faces of the kelburne girls but there was also hope in some of the free flowing hockey that was on display. Attention now turns to the game on the 27 Feb against Western.
