Kelburne under 18s resumed Scottish Cup duty at a frozen Bellahoustonyesterday. Early signs did not look good as the frozen surface threatened to stop the games going ahead.
So it was on a really slippery surface that the game against Cala Edinburgh surprisingly went ahead at 09.30 am.
Although most of the team would have preferred a Sunday lie-in, they started the game well against a determined Cala side. The match itself was a pretty even affair with goals from Michael Bremner, Alan Forsyth (left) and Miles Goldie securing a 3-1 win and an excellent start for the under 18s. All of the players in the squad took part and contributed to a hard fought victory.
Kelburne then had to endure a long wait until their next match against Hillhead at 4.00 pm and both the boys and coaches did really well to retain their focus in freezing arctic conditions.
The Hillhead match promised to be a tough encounter and it was no surprise to the Kelburne team and coaches that Hillhead put them under a fair bit of pressure in the first half. It was good to see Craig Morton back in action after a tough season with injury and he and the rest of the defence made up of Brodie Mackay, Mike Nicol and Harry Godfrey stood up to everything that was thrown at them, however Kelburnes determination saw them go in 1-0 at the break, thanks to a Jason Cairns PF.
However, the game opened up in the second half and Kelburne stepped up a gear and finally gained the upper hand. Lee Morton and Ross Lee (right) were working hard and combining well up front to create chances and their determination won a short corner which Jason Cairns converted with a great drag flick, 2-0 Kelburne. Michael Bremner added two more goals to secure a fine win and take his personal tally for the day to 3. Final score 4-0 Kelburne,
Once again, the entire squad contributed to a great win, good performances from Ryan Edgar, Mark Connor, Stephen Robbie and Jonny Barlow in goals rounded off a successful day for the under 18s. Despite the conditions being really difficult and the long wait between matches, the coaches wiil be pleased that the boys came through 2 tough games with victories.
