Fantastic Four Head to Wales

Congratulationsto the following players who have been selected for Scotland U16 boys international squad to face Wales at Wrexham in 3 international matches over the coming weekend.

  • Harry Godfrey
  • Lee Morton
  • John Gerard Shepherd
  • Jack McAllister

Squad manager, Steve Bain, also of Kelburne, enthused, ?it?s a great credit to the level of talent, commitment and determination of these youngsters that they have fought their way into this squad from a very large contingent of development players.

John Gerard does not enjoy the same support system as the others have at the Glasgow School of Sport, but he has performed consistently well at the training camps and trials since his initial selection.

Harry Godfrey has shown a tremendous level of fitness and determination.  He had a superb inter district tournament and has adjusted well to the step up required to compete on the international scene at the training camps.

Lee Morton has already had experience with the international squad last year and we will be looking to him to be one of the main players that the new caps can look to for inspiration during the test matches.  He is an extremely talented young player with an eye for goal which can be invaluable at this level.

Young Jack McAllister is the surprise package of this group, only in that he is getting a chance at this level so soon.  He has trained extremely hard with the development squad and has done especially well to impress the coaches enough to give him a chance to come and gain some experience at this level.  Unlike many players at this age group, Jack has shown the character and ability to step out of his comfort zone and perform to a high standard and he will gain invaluable experience from this trip.

The coaches fully expect the squad to have a tough time down in Wales. There are very few players with previous international experience in the squad and we have a very large number of younger players as well. The Welsh are always a difficult side to beat, especially on their own turf but we are looking forward to the trip.

The squad has been further boosted by the addition of Kelburne 1st XI goalkeeper Mark Fulton who will be joining the coaching staff as goalkeeper coach for the remainder of this year?s programme.  While not making the trip to Wrexham, Mark will provide a new dimension to the level of coaching currently available to the goalkeepers and we look forward to his input at the next training camp."
