Giffnock Ladies 2s: 3
Kelburne against Giffnock was always going to be a tough match, however with both teams missing some of their key players, and Giffnock without a keeper, it was anybody's game.
Both teams started strongly however Giffnock's playmaker, Rhona Simpson managed to score an early goal past Kelburne's awesome goalkeeper, Judith Crawford. This early goal shook the home side's confidence slightly and when Kelburne won a short corner, failed to put it in the goal. With the strong defensive line-up of Kirsty Gordon, Lyndsay Allan, Lynsey Paxton-Steele and Jennifer Owen, Giffnock struggled to get into the 'Burne D and have a shot on goal.
A quick outlet pass from midfielder Emma Ryan to Jennifer Morgan who made a great precise pass to Amanda Maxwell who with her reverse shot slotted the ball in the goal. After Ryan was hit in the throat, super-sub Laurie Kirkland came on and chanelled well, working hard in a midfield position. Not bad for a goalkeeper! The first half finished 1-1 and Kelburne still looked strong.
In the second half Kelburne tired slightly but Rachael Ewing worked tirelessly to keep us motivated. Giffnock scored another 2 goals to make the score 3-1 and by this point Kelburne's heads were down. Fiona McGowan and Christine MacCrimmon had some good play down both the left and right hand side but we lost possession because of Giffnock's strong defence. Despite Giffnock having no keeper, Kelburne couldn't create outcomes.
It was a generally good overall performance and Kelburne should use it as a learning experience and move on to the next game.
