On Target for Cup Final and Treble

Kelburne 2s: 5
Clydesdale 2s: 2

Scottish Cup Quarter Final

Kelburne 2s road to the Scottish Cup Final was completed on Sunday with a convincing win over local rivals Clydesdale 2s.

After an early meet time in the rain and a pit stop for some breakfast a full Kelburne 2s squad made it to Dundee and were more than ready to continue a great season. Apart from a slightly nervous start to the game the Burne were 2-0 up within 15 minutes. The first goal being a well worked move with Ewan Carmichael deflecting Gordon Menzies pass past a helpless Clydesdale keeper. The second goal could only be described as perfect hockey. From 4 passes from defence to one great pass from Gordon Menzies, Ewan Carmichael deflected (what could be his greatest ever goal) off the underside of the bar and post past former Kelburne keeper Greig Cunningham. Kelburne then conceded a penalty corner after some nervous defending and Mark ?2012"  Robertson putting the ball out of play. The Clydesdale penalty corner strike was then tucked past a helpless Robertson. Nearing the end of the first half young Lee Morton put Kelburne further ahead with a break away goal making the half time score 3-1.

Into the second half Kelburne strengthened their grip on this Cup tie with the majority of possession and some strong passing play. Within a great ten minutes of hockey Kelburne scored two quick goals firstly Jimmy McCrea (above, left) and secondly Colin ?Bomber" Bryce with well executed goals of the highest standard. Clydesdale then pressed the Kelburne defence hard in the last ten minutes with a good amount of penalty corners given away. Mark ?2012" Robertson and his defence were up to the challenge however and only conceded one penalty corner. The initial save was made but Clydesdale tucked the loose ball away. Highlight of the second half being the great defensive clearance of Stuart Robin (right) up the line reverse stick, unfortunately Kelburne's forwards could not latch onto the pace of this pass.

Overall a well deserved victory for Kelburne 2s, adding to the Mens 1s victory over Clydesdale on the Saturday.

The Final is on Sunday 9th May at 3pm against Gordonians at Peffermill, Edinburgh. All support more than welcome to see the 2s attempt to complete the Treble of league, cup and indoor league titles for 2009-2010.
