Cairns on Form for U21's

Set piece expert Josh Cairns was on form for the Scotland U21's last weekend in Austria. Cairns enhanced his already growing reputation with 2 goals as the side crushed Austria 5-2 in the third game of the test series.

Scotland took the lead when Gareth Davies of Egara was able to turn a cut back from Gordon McIntyre into the Austrian net and Inverleith's John Harris was able to double the lead when he followed up with a rebound from an initial shot.

Austria managed to pull a goal back but any hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Cairns fired home 2 penalty corner goals. The first flying through the goalkeeper?s legs and the second going in low at the keeper?s left hand post.

Austria were then able to pull a second goal back but victory was completed when a Nicky Parkes collected a rebound and scored after Cairns was denied a hat trick by the post.

In the initial 2 games the Scots battled to a 3-3 draw and went down 3-1 in the other encounter. Cairns added a further 2 goals in these games and their were strong performances from Gordon McIntyre and Alan Forsyth.

The team now move on to continue their build up to the European Championships at the same venue at the end of July.
