Alan in Busselton, Game 1 v New South Wales (NSW)

Despite an early start (0800 hrs), we played well against last year's runners-up in the 60s tournament.  The defence was composed and reliable and our forwards always carried a threat.  Our midfield found it difficult to find a rhythm and we seemed always one player short at important points in the game.

We scored from our second short corner (no, not me) in the first half.  We won 6 short corners in all and defended only one.  Overall a very satisfactory start to the Carnival!  We go on to play our arch rivals, Western Australia Metro, at 0930 hours tomorrow.  For me, I've experienced the surprising feeling of being victorious - not something I've been accustomed to!
