Kelburne (1) vs Grove (3)
After a disappointing loss last weekend to Grange, Kelbure were aiming to bounce back against defending champions Grove.
Kelburne started off a bit uneasy trying to get to grips with a new formation, the Grove attackers found cracks in the Kelburne press early on but keeper Cath Rae made great saves to deny them. The defence held out for 15 mins before Grove scored from a short corner. Kelburne battled forward to try an equal the score making several breaks through Laura Wrightson and Kerry Nunnery but were unable to make an impact in circle. Grove managed to get two more goals before the end of the half leaving Kelburne trailing by 3 goals.
The half time team talk from Paul Maguire made a big impact on the team, from the start of the half Kelburne dominated winning a short corner within the first 2mins. The Kelburne press was solid and prevented Grove from breaking through into the D. Kelburne's composure allowed them to counter attack through Francis Mckeown and Adele Dasty who created opportunities for Rachael Ewing, Claire McFarlane and Amy Hislop to have shots at goal. Kelburne's pressure was evident as numerous short corners were won but none converted. In the last few seconds of the game Kelburne won a short corner which captain Laura Wrightson converted after taking a deflection off the Grove goal keeper.
Kelburne look to next weekend to start their winning ways again and get three points from Hillhead.
Final score 1-3.
