Mens 1's start with Emphatic Win

Mens 1: 9
Inverleith: 0

The Mens 1's started thier domestic season on Saturday with a home fixture against Inverleith at Bellahouston. They were without the services of Scotland captain Chris Nelson and Josh Cairns through injury and Mark Ralph due to work commitments. They were able to include recent Indian import Verinder Sharma in the line up and Ross McIntyre made his league debut following his pre season move from Greenock.

Burne started strongly and were on the front foot from the off when a cross by Gareth Hall was turned into his own goal by an Inverleith defender. Burne continued to dominate possesion in the first half but displayed some rustiness in front of goal. Kelburne were able to add a second when Gordon McIntyre was quickest to react to a short corner rebound to slam home his first of the season. Minutes later Gareth Hall opened his account for the season when he robbed an Inverleith defender before unleashing an unstoppable shot past the helpless Inverleith goalkeeper. Michael Christie was able to add a fourth before the break to give Kelburne a comfortable lead at half time.

Kelburne started the second half in simiar fashion and were soon on the scoresheet again when Iain Schofield combined with Sharma before rifling the ball into the far corner. Hall was then able to add his second following a fine passing move and Alan Forsyth added a seventh from a well worked short corner. The goal of the game arrived with minutes left as Gordon McIntyre picked up the ball in his own half then fired a 50 yard pass which was met by a full length dive from Johnny Christie to deflect the ball home. There was still time for another goal as Michael Christie finished off another fine move to round off the scoring.
