Men's 1: 5
Dundee Wanderers: 2
The Gents 1st XI travelled to Dundee for a potentially tricky fixture against Dundee Wanderers today. The team were missing long term absentees Josh Cairns and Chris Nelson and they plans were further disrupted when Gareth Hall missed out due to illness.
Burne started the game well and it was clear that Wanderers were not going to lie down as they initially employed a full press against the Kelburne defence. Burne began to string some passes together and were able to win a short corner. The initial effort was saved, however another corner was awarded, from this one a fine routine was converted by a deflection from Iain Scholefield to put the side 1 up. Within 5 minutes the side were two up as Mark Ralph fired home a low drag flick from another short corner.
Wanderers were down but not out and the continued to take the game to Kelburne and Mark Fulton in goal had to be at his best to keep out 2 drag flicks and a hit from short corners. From the last corner, Burne were able to launch a quick counter attack which fell to Johnny Christie and he was able to slot home his 6th goal of the season. Wanderers were able to grab a lifeline just before half time as they finally managed to convert a short corner with a deflection at the back post to narrow the gap at half time.
Wanderers started the second half on the offensive and some poor defending allowed them to pull a further goal back with 20 minutes remaining. Burne appeared to be struggling to find their range with their passes and their attacks were breaking down, with Fulton having to be on his toes to prevent an equaliser. Kelburne were able to put the game out of reach with ten minutes remaining when good work from Iain Scholefield was clinically finished off by Michael Christie. Christie was able to seal the win with minutes left as he pounced on a loose ball in the Wanderers D to round of the scoring.
A good hard fought victory for the team which maintains their solid start to the season, the guys are in action tomorrow as they face Gordonains at Bellahouston with a 13.30 push back.
