Hillhead v Kelburne
2 - 0
Last weekend's second half performance against champions Grove gave the Kelburne girls some confidence heading into an important match against bottom of the table Hillhead.
The game began somewhat nervously and Kelburne took time to settle. They eventually found their feet and started to string together some nice passing down the right hand side. Within fifteen minutes, Kelburne had won a number of short corners and managed to find the net with one of these. The game became more and more physical with both teams being warned by the officials about their tackling. Hillhead created a number of chances on the break and Kelburne were fortunate to end the half 1-0 up.
Stern words were the order of the day at half time and Kelburne started the second half with much greater expectations of themselves. They continued to press the Hillhead defence but were thwarted by some fine saves and determined defending. The penalty corner attack team successfully converted another set piece which put the score at 2-0. The final third of the game became very scrappy as Hillhead put up a spirited fight.
Three points well deserved after a tough contest. Kelburne will be hoping to grind out two more victories in the final games before the Christmas break.
