Kelburne Ladies 1XI vsWestern Ladies 1XI
Half time score: 0-0
Full time score: 0-0
With the lessons learned from the previous week the Kelburne girls knew that this would be tough fixture but were determined to show that they are still up for the fight. The home side were also with out their Coach Paul McGuire but benefited from the assistance of Derek Forsyth.
With the sting of the previous weeks results still fresh the side concentrated on a defensive game plan to thwart the attempts of the experienced internationalists they were up against. This proved to be a challenge to the Paisley side who in the first 20 min of the game were under a great deal of pressure and saw some outstanding saves from Kelburne keeper Cath Rae and tremendous work rate from midfielder Emma Barlow and defender Kate Longbottom to clear the ball from the goal line. However the girls soon settled in to their new structure, which proved to frustrate their opposition and saw the first half end 0-0.
With no major changes to be made Kelburne began the 2nd half with the same focus and conviction as before. It became apparent that the Away team were starting to leave more gaps as they pursued the illusive goal that they wanted and so allowed some counter attacking play which led to several short corners for the home side, unfortunately these were with out success.
In the latter stages of the game Western stepped up their attacking force and again called the Kelburne short corner defence into action. One again keeper, Rae, made a series of tremendous saves and post players Longbottom and Frances Mckeown stayed firm to deny any shots wide of the keepers reach.
With the final result 0-0 Kelburne can enter into their next fixture with their confidence boosted and looking to take the full 3 points.
