3rd XI Girls Lose Narrowly To Troon

Sunday 13 March

Troon 3 - 0 Kelburne III

Without their captain or an experienced goalkeeper, this was always going to be a challenge for Kelburne.

Although Troon were below us in the league, they played some attacking hockey and won a number of short corners in the first half, scoring from 2.

Unfortunately, a ball in full flight from a MacCrimmon hit connected with poor Abi's ribs, leaving her crumpled on the pitch. Amazingly, she came back on about 5 mins later and continued to play for the rest of the game (we later found out she did, in fact, have at least one cracked rib!). Later in the game, Bethany also got hit on the nose, but again no tears!  The young girls at Kelburne are impressively brave!

In the second half, Christine moved forward into midfield in search of a goal and Hayley moved into the sweeper role. Troon got a third goal early in the second half, but Kelburne continued to drive forward, with a couple of good short corners where we were unlucky not to score.

There were some bright spots in the match, with Shannon playing well in defence and Ellise making some good tackles in the midfield.
