Kelburne tame the Lions

Kelburne 4ths / 5ths 5 - 0 Fidra Lions

A Kelburne 4th/ 5th Xi combination headed to Largs to take on Fidra Lions from North Berwick.

Skipper James Currie fielded a side with a mixture of youth and experience against one of the leading sides from the East of Scotland league.

Right from the start Kelburne pressed the Lions and it was no surprise when Alfie Gillies struck the opening goal from the first penalty corner Kelburne won, a second soon followed in exactly the same way when his penalty corner strike crashed into the back boards.

Kelburne were well on top with Callum McNaught and Callum Blair creating openings that the Kelburne forward line failed to convert.

Just before half time young 14 year old Conor McLean making his Kelburne debut pounced on rebound from the keepers pad to coolly score with a reverse stick strike. There was still time for Jak O'Connell to somehow miss from 6 inches when the goal was empty as he pulled his attempt wide.

This gave Kelburne a 3 - 0 interval lead.

The second half started in much the same way with Kelburne pressing looking to increase their lead and the back 4 of Steven Robbie, James Currie, Richard Morgan and Windy Miller coped with everything thrown at them.

Kelburne forward line squandered numerous chances created and it wasnt until the final 10 minutes before the lead was increased. Alfie Gillies completed his hat trick and the 5th and final goal was scored by Jak O'Connell when his shot from top "D" was deflected into the goal by a Fidra defender.

A useful work out for the Kelburne squad at this stage of the season.

A big thank you to Frank Morgan for his excellent umpiring.
