Ladies 2s bag a point against Giffnock

Saturday 15th October 2011
Kelburne Ladies 2s:   0
Giffnock:                    0

Kelburne ladies 2nd team put up a tough fight to head up a forceful Giffnock side with the first appearances of the season from Judith Crawford, who produced an outstanding performance keeping the ball out the Kelburne goals, and from Ellie Halliday and Hayley Skimming stepping up from the 3rd XI. For the first 10 minutes of the match Kelburne were on the attack winning an early short corner, Captain Jen Morgan delivered a fast ball picked up by Kirsty Hair allowing Jen Owen to take a straight strike which was well deflected by the Giffnock goalie. The Giffnock side came back strong and continued that way throughout the remaining time in the 1st half. The Kelburne defence consisting of Jen Morgan, Abi Reilly, Ellie Halliday and Kirsty Hair remained strong and persistent keeping the ball from the net. The Giffnock side had several shots on goal and two short corners but were denied any chance of a goal by goalie, Judith and her strong defence. After the first half Kelburne spirits were slipping but 1st eleven players Frankie and Catherine were on the side line to give some great constructive advice for the 2nd half.

Score at half time: 0-0

Kelburne 2nd XI came on to the 2nd half with confidence and determination. Passing improved with Drew Berry and Molly Godfrey in centre midfield, skillfully feeding the ball out wide to Emma Ormond and Hayley

Skimming. They were able to keep control of the ball and make some superb passes to the forwards and so giving Kelburne control of possession and attacking opportunities. With the score still 0-0 tensions were high in the last 15 minutes and with a fantastic run into the D Molly Godfrey took a shot on goal which unbelievably hit the post. After a strong attack by the girls Giffnock made a break through the midfield to put Kelburne back under pressure but thankfully Kelburne defence were there to stop Giffnock in their tracks. With 5 minutes left Kelburne were awarded a short corner which was unfortunately hit out the D by the Giffnock defence.
After a very hard fought match and great play by the whole team, Kelburne 2s ended the match with an 0-0 draw and 1 point in the bag!

Excellent work everyone!
