Ladies 2s draw with Edinburgh Uni

Sunday 23rd October 2011
Kelburne Ladies 2s:  2
Edinburgh Uni:         2

With Kelburnein high spirits from a well deserved win the day before, the ladies were optimistic about their chances against Edinburgh Uni. Vicki Black stepped into the goalie kit once again to help out in defence. Kelburne had a strong start to the game and attacked Edinburgh?s defence with some skilled passing from the back up to midfielders Molly Godfrey and Rachel Ewing, Amanda Maxwell and Drew Berry who distributed the ball around, keeping the students on their toes.  A high percentage of the game took place in Edinburgh Uni's half and within 15 mins of the starting whistle Drew Berry dribbled into the D and gained a well earned short corner. Emma Ryan took the hit from a slip from top ?D? but was just off target. Edinburgh Uni didn't make it easy for Kelburne but with strong defence from Ellie Haliday, Jen Morgan, Jen Owen and Kirsty Hair they couldn't get the ball near the stand in goalie. Another 10 mins of good pressure saw Kelburne gain two more shorts but the ball just couldn?t find the back of the net. Until Amanda Maxwell skilfully pick the ball from Edinburgh Uni, as they tried to clear the ball from the D, the ball lifted but she expertly controlled the ball and hit it into the net. Kelburne 1 Edinburgh 0. Edinburgh fought back and against the run of play equalised in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Kelburne pushed to get another goal but as the half time whistle went the score remained Kelburne 1 - 1 Edinburgh Uni

2nd half
Kelburne came into the second half determined and confident they would dominate the game and get more goals. Passing remained strong through out the pitch from the defence to the midfield to the forward's. Kelburne stayed focused and continued to attack and with the Edinburgh clearing the ball of to the side, Kelburne gained a long corner. Rachel dribbled the ball into the D and and went for the shot but the goalie saved it but with Amanda waiting on the other side of the D she took the ball from the rebound and took it back into the D and to the joy of the team she got another goal. The glory of being in front didnt last long as Edinburgh fought back and hit the ball of the defence shin guard inside the D and a short was awarded. Vicki Black worked hard with the defending line up but was unable to save the strong strike from the top of the ?D? and once again Edinburgh Uni equalised. With Kelburne continuing to attack and gaining another short corner, Jen Owen stepped up to strike the ball, but to no avail. Kelburne continued to keep control of the game and retained possession of the ball with some talented skills from Drew Berry and Rachel Ewing in the center of the pitch. The Kelburne side continued to push forward with good passing up the line and to the forwards Susan Deanie and Christine MacCrimmon. The girls worked hard right to the final whistle but could not change the final result. Kelburne Ladies 2nd XI  2 - 2 Edinburgh Uni
