Mens 3s lose out to Wanderers

Saturday 22nd October 2011
Dundee Wanderers:     6
Kelburne Mens 3rd XI:  3

After the long journey north the mood in the camp was good. Kelburne started well, playing pass and move hockey leading to several promising attacks but none of them leading to a goal. The pressure continued on the opposition without them threatening the Kelburne goal. Eventually the hard work from the team led to a goal, this came from a long ball from McNulty deflected into the goal at the back post by Jason. The second goal came soon after by Jason dribbling through the defense and slipping the ball past the keeper. The half ended Kelburne 2 Dundee Wanderers 0.

The Kelburne players were playing very well at this point. Kelburne started the second half as if they had already won the game, with slow ball pace and sloppy tackles putting them under pressure. The Wanderers scored two quick goals. This seemed to panic Kelburne. A third goal was lost. At this point Kelburne still had the ability to win the game but too easily got caught up in niggles and argument with the opposition and each other. Wanderers again scored. A third Kelburne goal from Bremmy galvanized Kelburne into action but a breakaway goal killed off any chance of a Kelburne fight back and Wanderers ran out eventual winners 6-3. This was a game Kelburne could and should have won.
