Mens 4s lose out to League Leaders despite spirited performance

Saturday 29th October 2011
Kelburne Mens 4th XI: 1
Hillhead 3rd XI:           3

This week Kelburne 4?s entertained Hillhead 3?s, who are currently unbeaten andsit at the top of West District Div 1.
The 4?s were somewhat depleted as they were playing with only one sub, and the squad had a bad start when conceding an early goal. Bad marking and poor communication allowed one of the Hillhead forwards to sneak along the base line and choose his spot at the front post. This early set back, however, spurred on the ?burne and for most of the rest of the first half, Kelburne had good possession of the ball in opposing territory but were unable to convert.

Half time: Kelburne 0 Hillhead 1.

The start of the second half brought new life into the Kelburne squad and they again had most of the possession, however a break by Hillhead won them a short corner which was converted to give Hillhead a second goal. This spurred the 4?s on to redouble their effort and after a few close chances at goal Kelburne were awarded a short corner where clever play between Gilles & Curry saw the captain scoring that all important first goal, Game On. Kelburne were pushing for an equaliser  which led to a slip up in the defence allowing two Hillhead players to get into the ?D?  unchallenged and put the ball into the net despite ?keeper Martin?s best efforts,  making the score 3-1 to Hillhead. After that there were a few more chances at goal but when the full time whistle blew the score was Kelburne 1-Hillhead 3.

Although 10 times better than last week's performance, Kelburne still did not manage to win this match and now sit 6th in the league.
Next week sees the 4?s take on local rivals Anchor @ Bellahouston
