Men's 1: 21
The Men's 1st team began their quest to regain the Scottish Cup as they faced a second round fixture against Harris from the second division. The team were dealt a blow when veteran hitman Johnny Christie was ruled out on the morning of the contest through illness.
Burne started on the front foot and were in the ascendancy early in the match. Harris found it very difficult to cope the with high intensity play coming from the Burne midfield and forwards. Burne scored almost at while as the gulf in class was clearly evident, with Willie Marshall notching a hat trick of short corner conversions and further slick play resulting in sharp finishing from Alan Forsyth, Michael Bremner and Michael Christie. The score at half time stood at 12-0.
To their credit Harris continued to battle hard in the game and were able to contain the flow of goals at the start of the second half with thier goalkeeper making several fine stops. Burne soon found their sharpness in front of goal and were rewarded with a further 9 goals in the second half as their superior fitness began to show through.
Harris had a late chance to grab a consolation in the final minute, but Mark Fulton in goal, who had been a spectator for the whole match was able to produce a fine double save to keep the clean sheet in tact. Scorers in the game were, Alan Forsyth (5), Willie Marshall (3), Michael Christie (3), Ross McIntyre (2), Lee Morton (2), Michael Bremner (2), Gareth Hall (2) and Josh Cairns (2.)
The team are in action this Saturday as they return to league action to face Hillhead at Bellahouston, pushing back at 13:30. A win would leave them with a clear lead at the top of the table as the action heads indoors for the winter break.
