Ladies 2s make strong start to indoor season

INDOOR: Sunday 4th December 2011

The ladies 2nd XI made a fantastic start to their indoor campaign. Afterbattling through the rain, hail and snow the girls got to Bells Sport Center in Perth ready to take on the important duty of Technical Desk for the first match of the day!

Once all 6 members of the team were assembled we were ready to go against a full Bon Accord squad. It didn?t take long for Kelburne to step up to the mark and show the opposition what they were made of, with Rachel Ewing slipping the ball past the goal keeper after some superb dribbling through the defence. This great play continued with Captain Jen Morgan and Vice Captain Emma Ryan mopping up any attempts at the D. With Drew Berry and Hannah Carroll running continuously up front the opportunities continued to open up for Kelburne and the score at half time was 4 ? 0, 2 for Ewing and 2 for Carroll. Kelburne continued to dominate in the 2nd half Emma Ryan and Drew Berry showing their silky skills by dribbling through the defence and flicking the ball high into the back of the net. Against the run of play Bon Accord managed to break through the defence and put the ball past our Keeper. With another 2 goals for Rachel Ewing the game finished 8-1 to Kelburne.

With the elation of a great first victory Kelburne were ready to take on a very strong Hillhead squad in the Main Hall. Stepping straight up to the mark Kelburne pushed forward and penetrated into the Hillhead ?D? winning an early short corner. With a strong push out from Jen Morgan the ball was stopped by Rachel Ewing and flicked straight into the net. With only another 5 mins down on the clock the same short corner routine worked again putting the ?Burne? 2 ? 0 up at half time. Unfortunately the second half did not go to plan, with Hillhead getting a fast break from a misplaced Kelburne corner and passing the ball past Judith Crawford. With this push forward Hillhead came out hard and fast against the Kelburne defence and managed to break through yet again. Not to be out done Kelburne then fought back working well as a unit and pushing forward with Drew and Hannah creating scoring opportunities, with a re worked short corner going to Emma Ryan she managed to find a gap past the keeper and put Kelburne back on top, only 1 minute later Hillhead were awared a shot corner and managed to work it round the Kelburne defence. The last 10 mins of the game were frantic with both teams looking to take the win, both were denied and the match finished with a 3 each draw.

Thanks to Frank Morgan and Judith Crawford for their umpiring!
