Ladies 3rds in Derby Win!!!

Kelburne III's vs Ferguslie

Kelburne fielded a strong squad to face local rivals Ferguslie, the sun shone and players and supporters were in optomistic mood. The match began fairly evenly but Ferguslie were first to win a short corner which was well saved by Eilidh Fleming in goal. Kelburne were forced to defend and Ellise Berry provided some excellent play, falling back to support the defence. Kelburne managed to regain posession and pushed into the Ferguslie 25 to see a short corner shot from Rachael Ewing saved. This was followed by some nice play down the right with Ellise, Bethany Allan and Jen Owen linking well to attack the Ferguslie goal. A shot on goal from Jen Owen came following a Hayley Skimming sprint down the left wing. Kelburne continued to pressurise with Emma Ryan placing a perfect pass to Jen Owen just outside the D, Jen pushed forward and managed to win the short corner which she slotted into the goal to give the Kelburne girls the lead. Kelburne continued to work hard with Ellise fighting hard to keep posession in midfield. Ferguslie fought back and managed to level the score with a shot hit from the edge of the D, Eilidh got a foot to it and was unlucky not to make the save. Ferguslie kept up the pressure and Emma Ryan managed to keep the scoreline level by clearing the ball off the line however Kelburne were unable to clear the ball from the D and Ferguslie increased the lead from a short corner. An unscheduled interuption to play followed as a lively dog was (eventually) cleared from the pitch by a very embarrased owner. Play resumed and Kelburne managed to level the score just before half time with Jen Owen scoring her second from a short corner. Kelburne finished the first half with some nice play down the right.

Half time: Kelburne III's 2 - Ferguslie 2

Ferguslie were first to get into their stride after the break and Kelburne were unlucky to loose an early goal. Kelburne sprang into attacking mode however as Ferguslie picked up the ball and pushed forward the defensive team of Lynn Houston and Emma Ryan were forced to SPRINT back to defend. Kelburne regained control with some lovely passing between Jen and Katie Bogan resulting in a shot on goal from Ellise which went just wide. Kelburne won three short corners in quick succession but were unable to make them count. This period of confident, attacking play continued with Rachael Ewing, Jen Morgan and Katie Bogan all having scoring opportunities. Finally the girls managed to break the stalemate with Emma Ryan demonstrating speed, accuracy and strength to hit the rebound from another short against the backboard to level the scoreline once again. Kelburne continued to dominate, searching for the winner. Hayley was actively involved at both ends of the pitch with a shot on the Ferguslie goal followed by a clearance off our goaline as she fell back to support the defence. Play continued to be fairly even with Kelburne gaining a short corner after some lovely play between Emma, Hayley and Jen down the left. At the other end it was Ferguslie's turn to have a scoring opportunity from a short corner but their efforts were thwarted by Emma Ryan who saved off the line. With time running out Kelburne had a final push on the Ferguslie goal with Rachael Ewing shooting over the net, Ellie making a precision pass to Jen O who won a short corner, and Jen Morgan being unlucky to see her rebound shot being cleared off the line. The nailbiting finish ended well for Kelburne as Rachael Ewing managed to score the winning goal from a short corner in the dying minutes of the game.
