Ladies 3s off to a winning start!

Troon v Kelburne Ladies 3s
Saturday 1st September 2012

It was a bright, sunny start to the season down in Ayr for the Kelburne day trippers, who were full of optimism for this opening game. The squad was a mixture of up and coming talent, some familiar old faces and a few enthusiastic new additions, who were delighted to make a return to the hockey field after being inspired by our Olympic bronze medal winner! There was also the experience of captain Jen Owen & Clare McKeown to lead the way.
A fairly even game was decided by a solitary goal which came from an initial short corner strike by Jen Owen which was saved by the goal keeper, but from the rebound Clare McKeown was on hand to slot it away nicely into the Troon goal. The first half saw some lovely link up play from the Berry sisters down the right side which gave Kelburne a forward momentum throughout the first half, ensuring a good supply of balls to Taylor & Rachel Bain up front.

Half-time score Troon 0 - Kelburne 1

The second half started brightly, however Troon were pushing to get on level terms. Eilidh Fleming did an outstanding job in goal, ensuring she kept a clean sheet. Troon failed to find a way past our number 1, who pulled off some amazing saves throughout. Bethany Allan gave a solid performance in her role in defence, keeping the Troon strike force at bay.

The girls making their debuts in the famous yellow & black of Kelburne were Lucy Blair, Kathryn Meenan, Kerry Docherty, Anita Blair & Elaine Fleming who all played their part in securing a valuable opening victory. Well done to all.

Final score Troon 0- Kelburne 1

A special thanks to our coach for the day, Frances McKeown, for her support & encouragement. Also a word of thanks to Barry Carmichael for umpiring.
