Mens 2s start season with a Sweet Sixteen!!!

Thomsons Cycles Kelburne Men?s 2nd XI versus CALA Edinburgh Men?s 2nd XI
Saturday 15th September 2012

For their first game of the 2012/13 season, the ten timeconsecutive champions Thomsons Cycles Kelburne Mens 2s faced CALA Edinburgh at Bellahouston. The game began with Kelburne dominating possession, testing their opposition.  However CALA failed to live up to expectations after a tough game last season and instead provided Kelburne with a cavalcade of scoring opportunities, many of which the home side managed to capitalise on.

The first goal came early on from a square ball fired in from the right and then deflected in by Jack McKenzie. After some more general play, Fraser Hutchison smashed the ball into the D, the ball then deflected off a CALA player past the keeper for an own goal. Goal three came from a square ball played by Matt Mcginley, then controlled by Ewan Carmichael and hit on the volley into the goal. Shortly afterwards, McKenzie intercepted a sloppy inter-defence pass. Left with a one on one with the keeper, he calmly reversed the ball past a bewildered keeper. Goal five came from another volley, this time by Mcginley after playing a one-two with Jack McAllister. Kelburne won their first short corner soon afterwards, and McAllister fired a drag flick past the CALA keeper into the bottom left. Goal seven also came from a short corner, where the ball went back to injector Harry Godfrey and then played across the goal and deflected in by McKenzie. The final goal of the half came from general play into the D, where the goalie saved several Kelburne shots before Miles Goldie flicked the ball into the top left of the goal.

Half Time ? Kelburne 8, CALA 0

The second half began as the first, with Kelburne dominating possession and pressing the Edinburgh side.  The rest of the montage of goals came from McKenzie, Michael Nicol, Andrew Duff and Craig Morton, with McAllister and Goldie scoring a further two. This avalanche of goals is a promising start to the season for the ten time champions; however areas needing improvement are evident.

Full Time ? Kelburne 16, CALA Edinburgh 0

Kelburne?s next game is away in Edinburgh against Grange 3rd XI on Saturday 22nd of September.
