Kelburne 5ths lose out

Kelburne V ? Motherwell II
It was a crisp Saturday morning when the 5th team welcomed Motherwell to the recently cleaned pitch at Bellahouston.

The starting line-up was as follows
Goal keeper Jonny Barlow
Defence James Macpherson, Stevie Bain, Alan Bryce, David McCallister
Midfield Lucas Farndale, Ian McIntyre, Ronnie McGuire, James Wood
Forwards Ally Urquhart, Andrew McCallister

Kelburne took the push back to get the game started and pushed forward hoping to catch Motherwell?s defence asleep, unfortunately a slack pass from midfield allowed Motherwell to have the ball and advance down the pitch towards goal but they did not create a scoring chance. For the next ten minutes the game flowed from end to end with no real goal scoring opportunities to either team that was until a break away from Motherwell had the defence stretched and the ball in the back of the net. Eight minutes later Motherwell?s lead was doubled after a fine move down the right hand side. The team re-grouped and started the attack towards goal which brought out a fine save from the Motherwell keeper. The ball rebounded to a Motherwell player who sent it down the pitch to the lone striker who fired a shot across the D which was unfortunately fired into the Kelburne goal by the retreating midfield for an own goal. Shortly after the restart Motherwell scored again. Youngster Ally and Andrew were certainly running the Motherwell defence ragged with some silky one two passes as they tried to create scoring chances. With  two minutes to halftime Motherwell won the first short corner of the match, this was well defended first by Ronnie and then by Lucas.

Halftime Kelburne V  0 ?  Motherwell II 4
The second half started with Motherwell advancing towards the Kelburne goal but all attacks broke down. After five minutes Motherwell scored their first goal of this half. Two minutes later a slip in concentration by the left back who passed across the pitch only for the ball to be stolen by a Motherwell midfielder saw Motherwell increase their lead. Shortly after this Motherwell again had the ball in the Kelburne net. Kelburne from the restart took the game again to Motherwell trying to so hard to break down their defence and youngster Ally Urquhart had thought he managed to find the back of the net with a powerful strike only to see the keeper diving to his right to save at the last minute. This seemed to spur the team on to what was their best spell of the game and they won several short corners in a row. With only minutes to go the youngest player on the pitch Andrew McCallister showed great skill and composure and determination to get his shot off towards goal and it found its way into the net. This was a fitting reward for the effort he had put into this game.

Final score Kelburne V 1 ? Motherwell II 7

On his roundup captain Stevie Bain praised the team for not giving up and continuing to try to play good passing hockey. There were more positives to be taken from the game than negatives. He reminded the squad that in December due to games previously being postponed that they had a few double header weekends.
Next game is against Kelburne IV at Bellahouston. This is sure to be an interesting game with the IV still unbeaten in the league.
