Thomsons Cycles 2nd XI lose Opening League Match

Hillhead 2nd XI 2 - 1 Thomsons Cycles Kelburne 2nd XI

Thomsons Cycles Kelburne started their campaign to win the title back at Jordanhill against a very organised Hillhead side. Kelburne has a few fresh faces in the squad from last year and with a young side seem more determined than ever to get their title back to Paisley.

The game started very one sided and with kelburne having most of the ball saw them to a few chances infront of goal with Bremner and mckinnon getting on the end of them causing the Hillhead defence problems. Hillhead could only create the one opportunity of note when a few good leads mixed up the kelburne defence which lead to a free shot at goal but fortunately missed the target. Kelburne then pressed for the first goal of the season with great passing at the back from Bain and Nicol with duff creating the chances that lead to 4 short corners. One of which force a great stick save from the Hillhead keeper. First half ended 0-0 with kelburne looking the most likely to break the deadlock

ht 0-0

the second half started the same as the first with Kelburne having all the ball and Hillhead making things difficult. It only took 10 mins until kelburne finally got they're reward. Carmichael found himself in loads of space which he then picked out a great pass into the "D" where McKinnon deflected the ball into the helpless keeper. 0-1

With being a goal down Hillhead now started to put pressure onto kelburne and forced them to make mistakes, this then gave Hillhead an edge. They soon managed to break through the kelburne by winning the ball in midfield which caught the defence out. Ball was fired in towards the D and with the team tracking back couldn't recover and Hillhead made them pay for their mistake and scored the equaliser .1-1

5mins to go kelburne were pushing for the victory which ultimately caught them out when they conceded a short corner that may have been a dubious decision, Hillhead then took full advantage of this chance and converted their short corner, to lead 2 - 1.

with no time left kelburne could not make it happen and suffered an opening day defeat.
