5th XI win local derby

Anchor 2nds v Kelburne 5ths

Sunday 22nd of September saw the Kelburne 5th development team take on local rivals Anchor away from home at Linwood sports centre ( I know millions have been spent refurbishing the place but I can?t remember the stupid name they have given it ) On-X. The boys were looking to put last week?s performance firmly in the past and were determined to get on the winning trail.

The squad for the game was Blair Martin, Alex Bogan, James Macpherson, Ewan Crawford, Shaun Jardine, Lucas Farndale, Wullie Allan, Ian McIntyre(c), Billy Anderson, .Adam Morton, Sam Jamison, Finn Haliday, Duncan McInnes and David Bain.

The roving reporter arrived during the halftime team talk to find the halftime score was Anchor 2nds 0 Kelburne 5ths 2.

The goals were scored by Wullie Allan and Billy Anderson. I was told this was a great first half with the youngsters guided by their older team mates passing the ball well and making Anchor chase the game and it was like this for about 25 minutes until the old legs of Billy and Duncan started to flag and Anchor started to have the ball and began to cause the defence some trouble but Blair, when called in to action saved well. The only other points of interest were that captain Ian?s injections were worse than in previous game against East Kilbride (I found this hard to believe but have been reliably informed that the first injection moved two feet, the second injection was much better he moved it three feet) Someone said they did not know Billy could move so quickly as he tried to get to the ball first to bring it out of the D and still have a chance of a shot at goal. Ian however has learned and for the halftime talk put his teeth back in so the team could understand him.

Halftime Anchor 2nds 0 ? Kelburne 5ths 2

Anchor started the second half with great determination and on occasion this was on the slightly more physical side and they tried hard to upset the young team. Kelburne players are made of sterm stuff and not even the youngest players of the team were phased by this tactic. Wullie and Billy were running the midfield and were well supported by Lucas and Adam as the ball was moved around and down the wings to the front players who crossed in front of goal but chances just went begging. On many occasions the defence had to look lively as Anchor tried to get on the attack.

You had a feeling that this game had more goals and the first of those came from the stick of Billy Anderson as he rifled his shot past the keeper. Shortly after this Duncan turned back the years and showed the young forwardline how to score with acute angle strike. The game had 2 green cards shown one to Lucas (possibly for his flowing locks) and one to Anchor midfielder who had begun to lose the plot and shoved Billy to the ground using both his hands only to be heard saying ?I just ran into him?.

Fulltime score Anchor 2nd 0 ? Kelburne 5ths 4

The clock ran down with no further incidents and Kelburne were worthy winners.

Next game 5th October against Rottenrow
