4th XI back to Winning Ways

Kelburne 4XI vStrathclyde Uni 2XI Saturday 12th October

Kelburne 4's headed to millerston for a game with Strathclyde uni, with a stand in keeper Jak O'Connell and a strike force missing the injured veteran Alan 'Alfie' Gillies.

The 4's started well pinning a young fit uni team in their own half and winning multiple short corners. One of these led to the 4's 1st goal, a strike from James Currie that rocketed through the keepers legs. Kelburne's confidence was growing and a rare Mark Conner goal was a result of some great play from youngsters Connor Cusack and Adam Morton

0-2 at half time with no threats to the Kelburne defence, keeper Jak had one kick and had to run around his empty D to keep warm. It was looking good for the 4's

The second half started with Kelburne again in control with the expected Uni response not happening. The 4's 3rd goal came from Mark , doubling his tally and relishing his unusual role up front. With Kelburne pushing for more goal's Strathclyde took advantage of a gap at the back and pulled one back. Straight from the restart the 4's hustled the Uni boys and when the ball found Harry Godfery he hit an unstoppable shot passed the keeper. With Strathclyde posing no threat to the Kelburne defence and the 4's playing some good hockey another 2 goals were added to the total. Stuart O'Connell got the 5th and to round off the day Willie Allan scored his first goal of the season.

An excellent performance and a boost to confidence for their next game against rivals Western

A special mention for the team's 3 youngest members. Jak for volunteering to play in goals and having the confidence to tell the defence what to do. Conner and Adam for continually threatening the opposition throughout the game.

Interesting stat : No short corners were conceded by the 4's during this game , a new record ?
