BromacKelburne 1st XI Men's team have been training hard all summer in preparation for the new season where they will looking to win their record 11th League title. This season the team will again compete in the Euro Hockey League against SV Arminen of Austria and Atletic Terrassa of Spain. These games will be played in Barcelona over the weekend of 10-12th October.
The team has been strengthened over the summer with the arrival of 4 new players. Kelburne's own Iain Scholefield has returned to the fold after spells in Belgium and the Netherlands. His experience which includes playing in the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will be invaluable for the team.
Douglas Simpson has crossed the divide and joined Kelburne from rivals Western Wildcats. Dougie has long been one of the top strikers in Scotland and will a great addition to Kelburne's attacking force. The ex-Scotland international has many years of experience to call upon and represented Scotland at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Jordi Rovira has joined the team from Spanish outfit Club Egara. He has moved to Scotland to study Business at the University of Strathclyde and will be greatly involved with the coaching the youth section during the season.
Ben Rennie is an Australian international indoor goal keeper pushing for selection of the next Indoor World Cup. Ben has came from Hale Hockey Club, Perth, Australia. He will be competing along with Andrew Wilkie for the number one spot in goals following the retirement of club stalwart Mark Fulton. Big shoes/kickers to fill but they are both up to the challenge.
The new recruits will slot in well with the teams established players. Chris Nelson and Michael Bremner will undoubtedly of benefitted from their Commonwealth Games experience and will be looking to share that experience with the younger members of the squad. Additionally the team will as ever be able to rely on the ever present trio of Mark Ralph, Jonathan Christie and Michael Christie.
The club continue their production line of talent with players such as Jack McKenzie and Lee Morton both of whom will be hoping to carry on their superb form of last season. Lee has made a big impact on Scottish hockey and has recently be included in the Great Britain U21 training squad. A true reflection on his talents.
Kelburne Hockey Club would like to wish players Jack McAllister and Ed Greaves the best of luck after their moves to Loughborough University. They have moved south to continue their studies and develop their hockey.
The team will definitely be looking the part thanks to the support of Gilmour Sports and their new Stanno playing kit. This could not have happened without the hard work of the team member Adam Bain who combines his hockey commitments with working at Gilmour Sports.
The team is in safe hands of an experienced management team. Player/coach Mark Ralph who is ex-Scotland and Great Britain internationalist will be assisted by Craig Walker. A new addition to the management team is Colin Bryce as manager, he replaces Kelburne Hockey Club legend Harry Coles. This will not be an easy feat but Colin is a more than able replacement.
The Men's 1st XI squad will be responsible for the coaching of the boys Junior Development Squad at the club this season. This will give the young players of the club the chance to the learn from some of the best players in Scotland. The whole squad are looking forward to working with some really talented youngsters.
