Poor first half from both teams playing hit and run hockey. Very little from open play. Irvine relied on the big hit out to their two pacy forwards but they ran into a solid Kelburne back four and created little if any scoring opportunities. Kelburne did score a goal in the first half, courtesy of Shaun Malone, who created some space at top of circle before driving in and scoring from a good reverse stick shot.

Second half saw Kelburne play a passing game resulting in Irvine being pinned in their own half for long periods.  Pressure led to more penalty corners and it was new player Thomas McIntosh who converted from a James Curry pass. Goal number three came from a good passing move down right side leading to a cross into goal converted by Thomas McIntosh again 3 nil and cruising when Irvine were awarded a dubious penalty corner. Despite a great save from the Kelburne keeper Irvine followed up and scored from the rebound
Kelburne pressed hard for the rest of the game and the fourth goal eventually came from another set play, this time converted by Willie Allan. Final Score Kelburne 4-1 Irvine 1.New guys McIntosh and John Candlin both played well but man of match goes to young Shaun Malone for his excellent all round play and goal.
