Sunday 20th of March

Today saw the climax of the Scottish National League with Bromac Kelburne knowing that a win would give them their 12th consecutive league trophy. The squad was in a buoyant mood before the game after their thrilling victory over Menzieshill the day before in the Scottish Cup semi final. Bromac Kelburne assistant coach Iain Scholefield made it clear that the team couldn't take a victory for granted and would have to work their "cotton socks off" if they were to get the victory!

The match started with Bromac Kelburne keeping most of the possession without creating many clear cut chances. Midway through the half the pressure paid off with Bromac Kelburne winning a short corner. Josh Cairns stepped up with a trade mark drag flick, which was illegally stopped by a Wildcats defender on the line. Cairns then coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to give them a well deserved lead. More chances fell to Bromac Kelburne, with one cannoning off the post but they were unable in increase their lead at half time.

After some inspirational words from stand in coach Johnny Christie and club president Mark Fulton, the team started the second half with good energy and work rate. Kelburne were lucky to keep their lead as the Wildcats thought they had scored a crucial equaliser. The umpires disagreed and no goal was awarded. This seemed to really clip the claws of the Wildcats as they didn't create many more clear cut chances. There was one sour moment midway through the second half which saw Adam Bain stretchered off with what looked like a serious injury. Thankfully for the club Bain was able to find the strength to soldier on and rejoined the action soon after. As the half went on and the Wildcats tired Bromac Kelburne we able to punish the opposition with two quick goals. Both saw some great individual skills from Lee Morton, who was able to first pick out Ben Peterson for a simple tap in and then close to full time found veteran Ross McPherson who was able to lift the ball high into the Wildcats goal.

The full time whistle signalled the start of the celebrations for Bromac Kelburne who were crowned League Champions for the 12th consecutive year.

Bromac Kelburne's next game is the Cup Final on Saturday 2nd April.

Unfortunately Giffnock was able to level the game with a goal in the 22nd minute. Kelburne tried to get back into the lead with a short corner but the goalkeeper was there to save it.

HT Pro Life Kelburne 5s 1-1 Giffnock 1s

Kelburne looked promising at the start of the second half when they received a short corner after a good effort on target by Craig Speirs. During the short corner the opposition’s keeper made a good save to keep Jambo’s flick from going in. Soon after Giffnock managed to break but Ewan Carmichael was able to keep the score level with a great saving tackle. Kelburne kept the pressure up when they received another short corner. David Magee’s shot from the corner was deflected hitting off the post and rolling in on the 52nd minute. There was some good play from Giffnock but it broke down due to good defending from Gordon Martin. Kelburne was the dominant side for the remainder of the second half with Giffnock creating very few chances. Kelburne had a succession of long corners but were unable so score a third goal.

FT: Pro Life Kelburne 5s 2-1 Giffnock 1s

Pro Life Kelburne Ladies 3's play well but lose to East Kilbride

Pro Life Kelburne Ladies 3's v East Kilbride

Saturday 19th March

Kelburne Ladies 3's hosted East Kilbride Ladies at Linwood on Saturday in the West League 2nd division. In the second last game of the season the Paisley team were looking to continue their strong performances of late

Kelburne dominated play in the opening 15 minutes as East Kilbride only camped out in their own half. Nevertheless Kelburne failed to capitalise on this possession and failed to get any shots on target.

The young keeper Abbie Houston had not been tested by the time the half time whistle blew to signal 0-0 at half time.

The second half begun soaking up some pressure from the East Kilbride visitors. With some excellent passing play the Kelburne Ladies transitioned the ball around the back and consequently created some space and time up the opposite flank. Lucy Bliss was denied by the post during this spell, after a fierce undercut shot rebounded off the woodwork.

It was however East Kilbride that opened the scoring after a dubiously awarded penalty corner was driven past Houston in goals. Unfortunately this lead was increased less than 5 minutes later when East Kilbride broke past the high Kelburne defence and again found a way into Houston's goal to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

With five minutes remaining Kelburne added another when Holly Hendry, picked the ball up in midfield and carried it past the Ferguslie defence.

The score finished 2-0 with Kelburne still sitting comfortably in the middle of the table. Most valuable player was Lucy Bliss. The season will finish for Kelburne next week when Kelburne Ladies 3's host Broomhill in a rearranged game.

Bromac Kelburne Men Through to the Final

Scottish Cup Semi Final

Bromac Kelburne vs Menzieshill

Glasgow Green

19th March 16

Bromac Kelburne Men’s first XI went into the Scottish Cup Final slightly light on numbers, Gary Maitles and Chris Traynor were unavailable to due to being abroad for work and Michael Christie missed out with a slight injury. However, the squad was still confident of getting a positive result.

First Half

The game started off in a cagey affair with both teams playing a tight game. Kelburne were happy to sit tight and let Menzieshill bring the game to them. In terms of chances it was fairly even. First big opening resulted in veteran Ross MacPherson hitting the bar with a well timed shot after Kelburne worked the ball well down the right hand side.

Menzieshill’s first clear chance of the first half was calmly cleared from in front of Ben Rennie goal by Josh Carins. As the half went on Kelburne won a number of corners but were unable to find the net despite some well worked variations.

All in all the first half was an even affair and they went into the half time break with nothing to separate them.

Half Time Score 0-0

The second half started in similar fashion with each team probing for a weakness in each others defence. Kelburne had a number of other corners but with no success. Then the deadlock was broken after a surging run from Menzieshill’s Gavin Byres and then ensuing confusion in the Kelburne circle resulted in a penalty for Menzieshill. The resulting penalty was slotted into the right hand side of the goal passed Australian Ben Rennie.

The goal resulted in the game opening up with Kelburne having to react and push for the equaliser. Eventually this pressure paid off when hard work from Ross MacPherson when he found Iain Scholefield in the Dundee’s team circle, a first time pass was then swiftly despatched by top goal scorer Lee Morton, a superb finish by the inform striker.

This goal seemed to lift the Paisley sides spirits and they continued to push for the winning goal. Menzieshill had their fair share of possession for the remaining 5 mins of the game. This however did not result in any other goals sending the game into running penalties.

With the 5 players and two opposing Australian born goalkeepers lined up and ready for the penalties tensions was high. Up stepped Menzieshill first who’s player was able to round Ben Rennie and lift the ball into the goal. First up for Kelburne’s joint player coach Chris Nelson who forced a superb safe from the Australian internationalist Leon Hayward.

Goal were hard to come by during the ensuing penalties with each player stepping up and failing to find the net. Ben Peterson and Craig Morton the unlucky Kelburne players. Lee Morton got the team back on level terms once again with a smooth spin, slotting the ball into the goal. With Menzieshill failing to find the net with their final running penalty it was left to down to fellow player coach Iain Scholefield to set up with the final penalty.

Scholefield managed to turn the Menzieshill keeper well but was taken down as he was shooting. Despite this he put the ball in the goal but the umpire was too quick on his whistle and awarded Kelburne a penalty stroke. Set piece specialist Josh Cairns was entrusted with the penalty and swiftly despatched in high into the roof of the net and sending Bromac Kelburne into the Final of the Scottish Cup.

The final will be held on the 2nd April at Glasgow Green where Bromac Kelburne will meet Edinburgh University. They reached the final with a 5-1 win over Clydesdale.

Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s continue good form

Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s v Uddingston 2s Saturday 12th March Kelburnes second team set out once again to try and keep their good form going. The past couple of weeks had been encouraging with big wins over Watsonians and Clydesdale and we had no intention of slowing down.

The sun was out and we also started brightly, instantly putting pressure on the Uddingston defence. After a couple of near misses from short corners, it wasn’t long before the men in yellow managed to turn possession into points with a well worked play and a classy reverse finish from Andrew Duff. Kelburne remained strong for the most part of the first half, with flowing hockey parting the opposition with ease and grace. We quickly added a second and third goal to the score sheet through Duff and Bremner; a big victory was on the cards with Uddingston in disarray and arguments. However form slipped in the latter stages with scrappy, disorganised play ending the first half and midfielder Miles Goldie heading off to A and E with a knock to the wrist. The kelburne defence stood strong and keeper Jambo stopping a couple of one on ones to keep his clean sheet.

Half time: Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s 3 – 0 Uddingston 2s.

The second half was much more of how the first ended with disorganised play from both sides. But Kelburne were comfortably in the lead and made sure not to press too hard for further goals. As the game progressed, Uddingston pushed harder and harder but the Kelburne didn't budge and managed to turn defence into attack quickly and broke the second half deadlock with a fourth through Ross Wallace. The game was near but over but we kept in search of more goals and found another in the last five minutes again through youngster Ross Wallace.

A comprehensive win but still things to work on for next Sunday against Edinburgh Uni 2s. Hopefully back in the title race.

Final score: Q Bikes Kelburne Mens 2s 5 – 0 Uddingston.

Pro-Life Fitness Kelburne Ladies 3's continue good form

Pro-Life Fitness Kelburne Ladies 3's v Ferguslie Ladies Saturday 12th March Kelburne Ladies 3's travelled to Linwood on Saturday in the West League 2nd division. The sun was shining as the young Paisley squad took to the field and they looked lively from the starting whistle. Kelburne dominated play in the opening 15 minutes as Ferguslie only had only 10 players. With the defence playing high up the pitch a series of corners were won and unfortunately not converted. Nevertheless Susan Deanie eventually got herself on the end of a Jen Owen corner strike to slip the ball past the Ferguslie keeper for the opening goal, in the 15th minute. Ferguslie came back fighting and within 5 minutes had equalised after breaking up the pitch and slipping the ball past young keeper Abbie Houston. The half time score was 2-1 to Kelburne, though both sides looked like they could score and progress to win the fixture. The second half began much as the 1st had started with Kelburne dominating possession and all players confident and keen to get on the ball. With some excellent passing play the Kelburne Ladies transitioned the ball seamlessly through the midfield and found Eliza Caven, Ambar Hendry and Jen Owen often. Ferguslie Ladies had no answer for the pace of the youngsters who were attacking both sides of the pitch and providing crosses into the circle. Kelburne claimed yet another corner in the 40th minute which hit a foot on the line. Another corner was awarded that was calmed slotted into the goals by Lora Caven, to make it 3-1 to the visitors. Ferguslie did break on a few occasions, as Kelburne confidently stepped high up the pitch. However Halliday and Eliza Caven, debuting in defence, were on hand to cover back and ensure Abbie Houston remained unchallenged in goals. With five minutes remaining Kelburne added another when Holly Hendry, picked the ball up in midfield and carried it past the Ferguslie defence. Her first strike at goals was cleanly saved by the keeper, who had no answer however when Hendry refused to be beaten and claiming the rebound slotted the ball past her left foot. The score finished 4-1 with Kelburne continuing to climb up the league table. Most valuable player for the match was Lucy Bliss. www.kelburne.com

Clydesdale 4s v Pro-Life Fitness Men's 5s Saturday 12th March First Half Clydesdale scored the opening goal 10 minutes into the game. This was followed by several attempts from Clydesdale, which saw Matthew Retson make some good saves. Unfortunately, Clydesdale scored again from a short corner 8 minutes later. John Miller managed to run through but the keeper managed to push away. Moments later Lucas Farndale had an identical attempt. Kelburne looked like scoring when Gary Brolly made a good pass to Lucas Farndale who passed to perfectly positioned, Alan McNicol but foot contact was made. Moments later Clydesdale take it up the park and score their 3rd goal (30 mins). A minute before half time Clydesdale made it 4. John Miller made several good tackles and was awarded a short corner, Craig Spiers was unable to hit the target. A last minute short corner saw Ewan Crawford score with the last hit of the ball. Q-bikes Kelburne 2s make it 6 point weekend

Q-bikes Kelburne 2s vs Clydesdale 2s

Kelburne come into this game after claiming an invaluable 3 points against current league leaders who had been unbeaten, Watsonians.

Next for Kelburne was a young Clydesdale team who were only beaten by a 1-0 score line in the reverse fixture. The game started pretty evenly and both sides had their different styles of play. Kelburne were the ones on the front foot however dictating the tempo of the game and keeping the majority of possession through the ever-lasting trio in midfield of Matt Mcginlay, Connor Bain and Ewan Carmichael. Kelburne created the first few chances making the keeper make some saves and their hard work wasn't in vein as it was Kelburne who broke the deadlock. With great off the ball movement from young guns; Ross Wallace and Fin Halliday created space in the Clydesdale D for Connor Bain to have time for a shot the rocketed past the keeper at his near post. 1-0

This gave Clydesdale the wake up they needed and started to get to grips with the tempo of the game making the Kelburne defence work a lot harder and create a few chances of their own. With Fergus Barrows in goals for Kelburne, coming off the back of a great performance against watsonians, was still in the same mood and for kelburnes' sake was fortunate as he kept the Clydesdale attack at bay for the time being. Kelburne were trying to keep the game under control with good possession round the back, Fraser Scott taking control of the tempo and making sure team mates; Mark Connor, Stuart Robin and Will Adams were doing the same. The next goal however came from the away side, Kelburne switching off for one minute which included a sloppy tackle that lead to a free hit and a well worked move for the away side to draw level right on the stroke of half time.1-1

HT Q-bikes Kelburne 2s 1-1 Clydesdale 2s

The second half started as the first with Kelburne seeing more of the ball and moving it around just waiting for the gaps to finally open. Again they were rewarded when E.Carmichael picked up the ball in the centre of midfield who found JG Shepherd in space and with quick two touch hockey M.Mcginlay found himself in the D and with slight confusion from the away side the ball bounced along to C.Bain who once again found the net. Kelburne had their lead back. 2-1

It didn't take long before they then found a 3rd then a 4th with F.Halliday at the top of the D shooting on his favourable reverse stick side leaving the keeper with no chance and scoring his first (but it's sure won't be the last) 2s goal of the season. And the 4th coming from quick pass and move that all started from Martin Bryne winning the ball in defence and Kelburne getting up the pitch so quickly through M.Mcginlay who again was in space who unselfishly passed the ball across the keeper for an easy tap in for Ross Wallace 4-1 Kelburne with a great weekend getting 6/6 points and points the title charge well back on track which is exactly what they needed after what many would say was a "hic cup" in the two league games previous to the weekend.

Q Bikes Kelburne 2s beat league leaders to remain in title fight

Watsonians 2s - 2

Q Bikes Kelburne 2s - 3 Q Bikes Kelburne 2s travelled to Edinburgh to face league leaders Watsonians looking to keep their hopes of another league title alive

after losing their previous two league games. Kelburne were without Fraser Hutchinson who broke his thumb in the previous game against Grange and also JG Shepherd who was drafted into

the 1st XI squad. Kelburne started on the front foot enjoying most of the possession in the opening ten minutes keeping Watsonians pinned in their own half. The first goal came when Kelburne countered a rare Watsonians attack breaking at pace to find Andy Bremner free on the baseline who squared the ball

to Andrew Duff who slotted past the helpless keeper. At this stage Kelburne were comfortable and looking to build on their solid performance so far, but it was Watsonians who grabbed the equaliser when they intercepted the ball in a dangerous position upfront. The ball was fired into the circle to the forward who in turn found his teammate at the back post to tap home. It was a well worked goal but Kelburne could feel

with some better marking it could have been avoided. Kelburne continued to cause the home team problems with Duff, Bremner and newly promoted from the 3's fourteen year old Finn Halliday all working hard to stretch the defence. Their hard work paid off when they won their first short corner. A poor push out resulted on Fraser Scott shooting

just wide. Both teams knowing the importance of the game got stuck in which lead to a few heated exchanges between players resulted in the umpires warning both captains this this would no longer be tolerated. There were to be

no more clear cut chances before half time and it finished 1-1. Ten minutes into the second half Kelburne were awarded a penalty stroke after good work down the left from Will Adams and Miles Goldie lead to the Watsonians defender deliberately fouling when Goldie was in the process of shooting. Bremner stepped up gave the keeper the eyes and sent him

the wrong way. 2-1 Kelburne. Shortly after Kelburne were 3-1 up when Andy Bremner knocked home his second of the day after good work in the midfield form Matt McGinley. Watsonians now threw caution to the wind and pushed forward but the defence of Stuart Robin, Will Adams, Fraser Scott and Martin Byrne held firm. With Watsonians probing further up the pitch this left Kelburne with the

counter attack. Kelburne could have had a fourth but Goldie shot narrowly wide. There was a brief break in play when Ewan Carmichael failed to pick up a slightly lifted pass and controlled it on his chest. After Carmichael caught his breath Kelburne looked to keep control of the last 5

minutes to see out the game. Watsonians got a lifeline when a careless pass from Fraser Scott allowed the Watsonians forward to walk into the circle and finish neatly

in the corner. 3-2 With two minutes to go Watsonians pushed for the equaliser, they got their chance when the home umpire gifted them a short corner when she adjudged Miles Goldie to have pushed over the attacker. Everyone else on the pitch saw the attacker swing for the ball miss and fall over but the corner

stood. Watsonians set up their corner team knowing this would likely be the last chance to salvage a point, but fortunately from Kelburne’s point of view Fergus Barrows pulled off a brilliant diving save to send the

three points back to Paisley.

Final score- Watsonians 2s 2-3 Q Bikes Kelburne 2s Kelburne can be proud of their performance after a run of poor results against a team that had not lost in the league for almost two

years stretching back to their division 2 days. Kelburne’s hopes of a 13th title in 14 years are still alive but need a few results to go their way.

Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s hit 6 past Gordonians

Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s 6 v 1 Gordonians

Saturday 5th March

Goals Josh Cairns x 2 Lee Morton x 1 Ross McPherson x 1 Chris Traynor x 1 Chris Nelson x 1 Craig Morton x still 0

The gents 1st team kicked off another double header with a home game to Gordonians. Without player/coach Iain Scholefield and young Neil McIntyre due to injury, solid striker Jack McKenzie away at a wedding the squad was boosted by the returning Chris Traynor.

The team started off well and dominated from the first whistle. The first goals of the game came from a timely interception by Michael Christie who coolly slipped the ball to veteran Ross McPherson who showed his experience to draw the keeper and finish with a cheeky wee lift.

Kelburne continued to push forward and were awarded a short corner after some patience. Up stepped the Ledley King of Kelburne Josh Cairns to score his first goal of the game.

Kelburne got a bit careless and complacent which allowed the travellers to find a gap in the defence which allowed a forward to break away 1v1 with keeper Ben. The Ozzie managed to slow the forward down however a lucky reverse gave the away team some hope.

Kelburne used this wake up call to kick on and up stepped Traynor to score a well worked team goal. Being the tallest man on the pitch he still seemed to go unnoticed and find himself free at the penalty spot to sweep in what was a crucial goal to restore some dominance.

Half time past and Kelburne seemed to totally refocus and the Aberdeen club never trouble the defence. Lee Morton scored the 4th with what has become a regular occurrence of seemingly waltzing past a number of players and finishing with a reverse stick shot that the keeper could have saved had he seen it!

The goal of the game came from assistant player/coach Chris Nelson from a corner routine that he chose. Josh Cairns playing a low drag flick to be finished with a sliding Nelson deflecting the ball under a confused keeper.

The final goal came from expert corner taker Cairns who again finished off by roofing another drag flick. The team now must recover and go again tomorrow against bottom of the league Dundee Wanderers. Always a physical game and the team will need to be physically and mentally strong to ensure that they walk away with all 3 points.

Young Kelburne Ladies 3s continue great form

Kelburne Ladies 3's v Greenock Ladies

Saturday 5th March

Kelburne Ladies 3's hosted Greenock at Linwood on Saturday in the West League 2nd division. The sun was shining as the young Paisley squad took to the field and they looked lively from the starting whistle.

The home team didn't wait long before giving their fans something to cheer about. With her first goal for her new side Leanne McKissock opened the scoring for the Kelburne after a corner was rebounded out to her. Within ten minutes, and following a very dominant spell, Emma Ryan doubled this tally with a low drive bulleting past the Greenock keeper.

With Kelburne camped out in the Greenock half and some attacking defensive play keeping them there the team looked more than comfortable. Then 23 minutes into the half Neave Halliday added to the tally when she got onto the end of a corner which she injected to make it 3-0.

The Greenock keeper did well in goals when shots from Jen Owen, Lora Caven, Jenny Gow and Lucy Bliss all failed to beat her. Nevertheless she could not stop Ryan claiming her second after a solo run into the circle resulted in another low drive past her left leg.

Kelburne went into half time 4-0 up.

Greenock had no answer for the pace of the youngsters who were attacking both sides of the pitch and providing crosses into the circle. Soon defender Ryan found her hatrick complete after getting on the end of one of these crosses and powering another low drive into the Corner of the Greenock goal.

Greenock did break on a few occasions, with Kelburne confidently stepping high up the pitch. However Halliday and Holly Hendry were on hand to cover back and ensure Abbie Houston remained unchallenged in goals.

With ten minutes remaining Kelburne added another when Holly Hendry, with an assist from Gow calmly slotted Lucy Bliss's rebounded shot past the keeper. The score finished 6-0 with Kelburne finally returning to winning ways after a few disappointing results. Most Valuable Player was Philippa Saddler after a sterling job in midfield. Kelburne look forward to visiting Ferguslie Ladies next week in the Paisley Derby.
